Job Description Summary

The University of South Alabamas Grounds department is seeking to hire a Groundskeeper I. Interested candidates should apply to be considered.

Essential Functions

These are the job duties required of the position.

Essential Functions

Performs routine maintenance of grounds to include:

  • Trimming and fertilizing trees and shrubbery.
  • Mowing and edging lawns.
  • Picking up trash and debris.
  • Watering plants.
  • Hoeing, weeding and tending flower beds, gardens, and lawns.
  • Collecting, loading and hauling trash.
  • Operating a tractor, and other various groundskeeping equipment and vehicles which may be equipped with manual transmissions.
  • Digging and planting flowers, shrubs and trees; performing groundskeeping and custodial duties in maintaining a small group of buildings and grounds.
  • Installing weed fabrics and mulches.
  • Staking and guying trees.
  • Removing debris and trimming along edges of bodies of water.
  • Cleaning trash and debris from storm inlets.
  • May apply chemicals to lawn, trees, shrubs, flowers, and paved surfaces.
  • Collecting campus-wide solid waste to include pick-up of bagged, boxed and loose materials and transporting by truck to dumpsters located throughout campus for unloading.
  • Moving materials and equipment weighing up to 60 lbs.
  • Assisting in preparing grounds for installation and repair of irrigation systems.
  • Operating a power washer to clean sidewalks and other paved surfaces.
  • Regular and prompt attendance.
  • Ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required.
  • Related duties as required.
