GRAND COUNTY Associate Planner in MOAB, Utah

About the Position:

The Associate Planner works closely with the Planning Director overseeing the development review process, coordinating legal reviews, and preparing staff reports and other related documents. This role collaborates with several County departments as well as local and state agencies. Additionally, this position will coordinate with the Planning Director to organize and conduct Planning Commission meetings and assist in long range planning activities. This position works within a small department, performs a variety of professional, technical, and administrative duties, collaborates with local agencies, and provides a service to the public. Communication, both written and verbal, and effective conflict resolution skills are highly important to maintain successful relationships within the community.

Essential Functions:

  • Professional and responsive customer service
  • Technical reviews of development applications, site plans, and preliminary plats. Distribution of applications to appropriate agencies for review.
  • Presentation of Staff Reports to the Planning Commission and County Commission.
  • Make recommendations of amendments to policies and procedures, and assist Planning Director in drafting amendments and ordinances
  • Coordinate with County Attorney for legal reviews
  • Assist with compiling and posting agenda materials and public hearing notices

    • Community development and Land Use regulatory framework principles and applicable laws
    • Experience reviewing applications to determine compliance with the County's General Plan, Land Use Code and Zoning Map.

    • Business, report, and presentation writing
    • Principles of public relations

Qualifications:

  • Graduation from college with a bachelor's degree in a related field; and
  • Four (4) years of related experience; or
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screening and background examination.
  • Must possess valid Driver's License.

This position typically works 8 am - 5 pm, Monday thru Friday and may attend evening meetings as needed.
