The base rate of pay for this position is $21.67 per hour.The Sheriff's Department is seeking an EVIDENCE TECHNICIAN II to join their team. This position performs work in support of criminal investigations including, but not limited to, collecting, identifying, and classifying physical and digital evidence for the Missoula County Sheriff's Office. Uses current technology such as Zetex, tower dumps, Cellebrite, and GrayKey to recover information from electronic devices. Preserves digital evidence. Works under the direction of the assigned case detective and/or a supervisor on scenes. Processes scenes for physical evidence including recognition, identification, preservation, documentation, collection, cataloging, and logging evidence and other property related to criminal investigations. Responds to coroner calls and assists with scene documentation, collection of evidence, inventory medications, and wait for the funeral home. Preserves the chain of custody. Testifies in court as to the collection of evidence and the chain of custody of evidence. Prepares reports, affidavits and other related legal documents related to evidence and the collection and chain of custody of evidence. Logs and documents physical property and digital items received. Provides for disposition of items when no longer needed as evidence through court orders, registered letters, phone calls and newspaper advertisements according to state law. Transports items to and from the State Crime Lab and funeral homes. Maintains supplies, cleans, and stocks crime scene van. Ensure equipment is maintained and running properly. Provide coverage at the evidence warehouse as directed. Catalogs, documents, and stores evidence and other property related to crimes. Return property to individuals upon authorization to release items. Oversees and accompanies visitors to the warehouse. Calls for security assistance if needed. Reports maintenance problems or unsafe conditions at warehouse. Responsible for the management and organization of the Technology Room and temporary device lockers. Reports regularly to supervisors on the status of devices and resulting extractions.Minimum Qualifications•Requires a bachelor’s degree. Degrees best suited for this position are criminal justice, criminology, forensic science, information technology, and computer forensics. •Requires three years of experience working independently with a minimum of supervision. Forensic experience preferred. •SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Requires passing an extensive criminal history and background investigation. Requires a valid driver's license. Requires the ability to obtain and maintain the following certifications: Cellebrite Certified Physical Analyst (CCPA), Cellebrite Certified Operator (CCO), and Certified GrayKey Operator.Physical/Environmental DemandsThe work is primarily performed in an office setting at the Sheriff's Department offices but does require occasional work in the field. Work performed on the scene of crimes may require special safety measures and exposure to potentially dangerous substances and communicable diseases may occur. Requires lifting up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 40 pounds occasionally. Requires the ability to use ladders and stools and the ability to reach above shoulder height to store and retrieve property and or evidence. Requires regular driving of a motor vehicle to respond to scenes and for transport and collection of evidence.
