Job Description

AECOM is looking to hire an entry-level Transportation Planner for the Markham and Mississauga ON locations.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Preparing and contributing to transportation planning/designs and recommendations, Concept site planning and strategies and transportation studies

  • Analyzing transportation data and conducting/ assisting in traffic and transit analysis

  • Builds analytic and design skills.

  • Creates functional concept designs, performs calculations, sketches, diagrams and interoperates drawings.

  • Uses computer software as a tool for solving basic transportation/traffic engineering problems

  • Supporting, attending and participating in client and public meetings

  • Developing and managing content for presentations, reports, and proposals

  • Researching industry standards and global best practices

  • Participating in site visits and fieldwork

  • Performing data collection and analysis

  • Performs work in accordance with agreed-upon budget and schedule under supervision.

  • Performs work in accordance with established quality control processes.

  • Assists in the day-to-day project coordination activities under the supervision of an experienced Project Manager.

  • Writing and editing technical reports and briefing notes

  • Working within a team of transportation/traffic engineers, planners, and designers to assess transportation, traffic, and transit conditions.

  • Attending project team meetings as needed


Minimum Requirements

  • Must be completing or have completed a relevant Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Urban Planning, Sciences, OR a relevant Diploma in Transportation Planning and/or Traffic Engineering

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree in an applicable field

  • Postgraduate degrees in an applicable field is desirable

  • Strong interest and passion for transportation planning, traffic engineering and transit-related infrastructure systems, and emerging technology

  • Ability to work in a team environment.

  • Strong technical writing skills

  • Good communication and time management skills

  • Interested in pursuing professional accreditation.

  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office software

  • Passionate about transportation and urban planning

  • A positive attitude and ability to work collaboratively with others.
