Intermediate Tailings Geotech Eng - Dynamic Deformation Analysis

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide input for advanced geotechnical laboratory and field investigations (including drilling and in-situ testing) and carry out detailed materials characterisation to support TSF design and planning.

  • Carry out earthquake induced liquefaction assessments, detailed evaluation of Seismic Cone Penetration Testing results, site response analysis, and seismic performance analysis of TSFs.

  • Utilize geotechnical software and modelling tools to analyse and optimise designs of TSFs; tools such as FLAC2D/3D and/or PLAXIS.

  • Develop geotechnical design recommendations for tailings storage and dry stack facilities.

  • Mentor junior staff and foster a continuous learning environment

    Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, with a graduate degree (MSc, or PhD) in Geotechnical Engineering.

  • 5-8 years experience in geotechnical engineering related to tailings management and tailings storage facility design.

  • Proven knowledge of geotechnical behaviour of tailings materials, static and dynamic liquefaction of tailings and relevant principles of soil mechanics, particularly critical state soil mechanics.

  • Advanced understanding of the key principles of tailings dam safety, risk management of tailings storage facilities.

  • Proven experience in advanced laboratory testing, and numerical modeling techniques related to tailings materials.

  • Proven experience in implementing advanced soils constitutive models with applications in earthquake engineering.

  • Advanced understanding of key concepts in the safe and sustainable design, construction, operation, and closure of tailings storage facilities, dry stack and heap leaching facilities.

  • Working knowledge of latest worldwide developments in the area of tailings management, as they relate to Global Tailings Standard on Tailings Management (GISTM), and other country or international organizations.

  • Professional registration in Canada or eligibility to be registered in Canada as Professional Engineer.

  • Experienced with Microsoft Office applications

  • Proficient in modelling using FLAC2D/3D and Plaxis 2D/3D.

  • Ability to travel to sites within and outside of Canada
