Scope of Position: You should have the ability to develop opportunities in the various aspects of customs from our Canadian and international offices. You must be comfortable working closely with clients, staff, the CBSA and other government agencies.Strong communication skills will be required to be able achieve your goals with clients, the government and the team.
Classify our clients’ products using a working knowledge and demonstrated ability to properly navigate and interpret the Harmonized Tariff System. You must possess the ability to read, understand and apply the general rules of interpretation (GRI’s), section & chapter notes and have a good understanding of Customs' rulings, including Customs' ruling database.
The Senior Consultant will need to have an understanding of import valuation and the trade agreements that Canada is a party to. They will need to have the ability to manage their projects and work closely with the team to complete the projects within the requited time limits.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
Harmonized Tariff Schedule classification of imported products
Researching and interpreting Customs rulings for HS classification determination
Research OGA, ADD/CVD, Quota/Permit requirements
Effectively use reference sources, such as the HS Tariff schedule and Explanatory Notes
Prepare, submit and manage binding classification ruling requests to the CBSA.
Working knowledge of Customs Valuation and its interpretation.
Understanding of international trade agreements
Communicating with domestic and international clients’ offices, building and maintaining strong internal and external relationships
Corresponding with the CBSA.
Actrive participation in the sales process including attending meetings with clients.
Prepare and deliver presentations and reports to management, peers and clients
Mentor and guide junior team members.
Meet company standard of 52 hours of training per year

Requirements – Skills, Education, Experience
Either CCS or CTCS are preferred
Canadian Customs Broker License or willingness to actively obtain
Demonstrated customer service skills and proven interpersonal skills
Minimum 5 years experience in an international trade environment
Required knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including but not limited to: Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, CRM
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Superior analytical skills with a strong ability to logically document and explain processes
Investigative and problem solving skills
Reporting Structure: The Senior Consultant, in most cases, would report to the Senior Manager or Principal.
