Job Overview :

The Mechanical Equipment Technician will provide preventive and corrective maintenance, as well as day-to-day operations support, for the MCAS Miramar Microgrid and Electrical Distribution System. This includes maintaining associated systems like, Natural Gas and Diesel Generators, Generator Support Equipment to include Selective Catalyst Reduction (SCR) aqueous urea storage, SCADA, and advanced metering infrastructure. The technician will focus on routine preventive maintenance tasks such as daily inspections, changing filters, and ensuring environmental compliance, while more complex electrical work will be handled by licensed subcontractors. The successful candidate will work closely with the on-side Project Manager to facilitate other maintenance performed by the Original Equipment Manufacturer.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance (PM), and minor repairs on mechanical systems.

  • Monitor and maintain diesel generators, natural gas generators, fueling systems, and associated equipment.

  • Conduct preventive maintenance tasks, such as checking fuel tank levels, lube oil levels, cooling systems, exhaust integrity, and battery condition.

  • Support system programming and diagnostics to troubleshoot equipment failures, maximize operational efficiency, and manage alarms.

  • Maintain detailed records of preventive and corrective maintenance services and assist in the development of planned maintenance schedules.

  • Provide support for bi-annual testing of the Microgrid system during scheduled test exercises.

  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, OEM recommendations, and government specifications.

Systems and Equipment :

  • Generators (diesel and natural gas), after-treatment systems, generator cooling systems, control boards, transfer switches, batteries, UPS systems, wiring, and cabling.

  • Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems, and communication infrastructure.

  • Microgrid systems, Utility Monitoring and Control Systems (UMCS), and fuel-level alarm systems.

Qualifications :

  • 6+years of experience

  • Expertise in the maintenance of mechanical systems, including generators, cooling systems, and HVAC.

  • Experience with preventive and corrective maintenance on generators and associated mechanical systems.

  • Knowledge of system programming, diagnostics, and alarm management.

  • Strong understanding of industry codes, manufacturer specifications, and safety standards, including Lock Out/Tag Out.

  • Ability to work in compliance with environmental and cyber-security protocols.

Preferred Licenses :

While the role focuses on mechanical systems, qualified candidates will hold the requisite trade licenses to support equipment maintenance. Electrical work will be handled by licensed subcontractors as needed.

Pay Range : $30 - $45

Abilities:

  • Lifts at least 100 pounds at one time and 60 pounds for an extended period of time.

  • Relocates a 12 footstepladder without assistance.

  • Works at various heights up to 60 feet and can climb and maintain balance on scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalksand all types of ladders.

  • Walks, climbs, lifts, squats, crawls, kneels, pushes, pullsand reaches overhead on a routine and repetitive basis.

  • Possess good vision (may be corrected vision), the ability to see in color, and the ability to hear and communicate in English.

  • May use a standard ladder without exceeding the weight limit while carrying tools.

  • Tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong.  It does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing there is a problem.

  • Apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense.

  • Combine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions (including finding a relationship among seemingly unrelated events).
