Medtronic Test Systems Development Engineer (Firmware Lab) - Fridley, MN in Minneapolis, Minnesota

A Day in the Life

As a Test Systems Development engineer you will work closely with cross functional teams to define, design, and implement test systems for Medical Device Instruments. This position requires the development and management of instrument test systems used by Firmware Verification Test (FWVT) engineers, and other functional groups, for code development and automated verification test regression testing for both legacy and new product development.

Candidates must have the skills to design and develop analog and digital electronic circuits including modeling, schematic capture, board layout, and bring up. Candidates must also be familiar with developing embedded software using C/C++/Python and have knowledge of the hardware/software interface.

Responsibilities include:

  • Designing and modeling analog electronic circuits

  • Understands MOSFET, JFET, BJT transistor circuits

  • Understands amplifier designs and transfer functions

  • Develop models of circuitry in Spice and/or MatLab/Mathematica

  • Designing and modeling digital electronic circuits

  • Logic design using discrete components

  • Capable of reading Verilog/VHDL designs and understand data flow

  • Knowledge of state machine development

  • Developing schematics and board layouts

  • Knowledge of schematic capture tools (Altium, Cadence)

  • Ability to transfer/translate schematic entry to PCB layout tools (Altium, Cadence)

  • Knowledge of developing and maintainingcomponent libraries for schematic and PCB tools

  • Understands PCB Layout techniques and design rule definitions

  • Troubleshooting digital and analog circuitry to the component levelleveraging strong analytical and critical thinking skills.

  • Familiar with board bring-up of new designs

  • Ability to use soldering tools and implementing board rework

  • Ability to read and understand circuit schematics

  • Developing embedded software using C/C++/Python

  • Understands multi-threaded environments

  • Understands development using RTOS environments

  • Capable of architecting data structures applicable to data management requirements

  • Can design interrupt driven event systems

  • Ability to leverage hardware peripherals to enhance code performance

  • Develop tooling code to aid in debugging/testing of embedded code

  • Cross functional coordination with individuals to obtain requirements and inputs

  • Balancing multiple project priorities in addition to user support

Must Have: Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical/ Electrical Engineering with 2+ years of working experience

  • Advanced degree with 0+ years of working experience in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or related field

Nice to Have

  • Experience in the design, development, and maintenance of hardware test systems in the medical device industry

  • Demonstrated understanding of software and firmware processes and techniques

  • Knowledgeable of RF Telemetry/ Bluetooth communication systems

  • Altium toolset experience

  • Understand operation and limitations of lab equipment such as:

  • Oscilloscope

  • Logic Analyzer

  • Power Supplies

  • Spectrum Analyzer

  • Multi-meter

  • Linux Development Experience

  • Experience with scripting languages, (Python, bash, TCL)

  • Familiar with software development on desktop systems

  • Knowledge of GUI code development using various languages (C#/Python)

  • Ability to define GUI layout and connect widgets to achieve goals

  • Knowledge of Git tools and GitLab work flows

  • Knowledge of DevOps tools and best practices

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):95,200-142,800

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others)
