We're hiring a Retail Strategist to help us navigate the WAM Shop through this transformation-someone who brings sharp business acumen, retail forecasting and inventory management, as well as brass-tacks sales platform expertise. Is this you? Do you have well-honed budgeting, retail analysis, and point of sale chops, and sharp instincts for how consumer trends are shifting in the culture sector? Of course, you have a knack for sourcing artful, quirky finds at an accessible price point; do you also have a spidey sense for what's likely trending next-in stores, on social, and in the field? The Weisman is seeking a dynamic, experienced Retail Strategist to join the WAM team on a one-year contract. The Retail Strategist will develop a business plan that includes point-of-sale systems analysis, as well as vendor and product selection that reflects the museum's exhibitions and seasonal themes. This position will also create targeted strategies for inventory clear-out and end-of-season sales, and help identify potential repurposing of the Museum's WAM Shop space as we transition away from our current retail model. The ideal candidate will have a keen eye for shifting trends in the market, creative problem-solving abilities, strong project management skills, and a passion for the arts and culture sector. This is a 100%, Temporary Civil Service position (classification 8208A1, Administrative Associate 1) working 40 hours per week for up to one (1) year. Key Responsibilities: Product Curation 20% * Identify and purchase high-quality goods that align with the museum's brand and appeal to diverse customer segments. * Evaluate and select products based on factors such as cultural relevance, quality, price, and potential sales performance. Re-envision Art Rental Program 20% * Assess feasibility of moving art rental to digital platform * Assess staffing and point of sale processes Evaluate options for repurposing shop space 20% * Investigate vendors for possible rental * Work with University departments on procedures Develop Merchandising Plans 15% * Develop and execute a sales strategy to maximize revenue during peak shopping periods. * Collaborate with exhibition teams to ensure product selections align with current and upcoming exhibits. * Identify opportunities to develop in-house brand merchandise that reflects the museum's mission, values, and unique offerings. * Coordinate with designers and suppliers to produce high-quality, museum-branded products that appeal to visitors. * Create targeted strategies for inventory clear-out, such as end-of-season sales and clearance events as museum retail operations downsize POS System Analysis and Implementation 15% * Evaluate various POS systems, considering factors such as ease of use, cost, scalability and online sales integration capabilities. * Work with IT and finance departments to ensure the chosen POS system meets technical and budgetary requirements Inventory Management 10% * Analyze product classifications to determine optimal inventory levels. * Generate purchase orders and manage reorders to maintain adequate stock levels without overstocking. Salary range: $54,000 to $60,000 depending on qualifications. Qualifications Required Qualifications * Bachelor's degree or a combination of related education and work experience to equal four years * Proven experience in retail buying, preferably within a museum, cultural institution, or similar environment. * Strong analytical skills for inventory management and sales forecasting. * Excellent negotiation skills and experience in vendor relationship management. * Ability to develop strategic merchandising plans that align with organizational goals and exhibition themes. * Creative and innovative mindset with a strong understanding of market trends and customer preferences. * Experience in POS systems with knowledge of integrating online sales platforms. * Exceptional organizational and project management skills. * Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
