Walman is looking for a Senior Systems Engineer in our Minneapolis, MN location. This is a great opportunity to join our team!

Job Summary

This senior role within Walman Information Services installs, monitors and maintains systems (virtual environments, operating systems, application software and management tools) ensuring the highest levels of availability and security. Implementation of strategies that effectively manage infrastructure resources, security risk and day-to-day operations is a primary objective. This position provides technical and engineering expertise for infrastructure and security technology throughout the company.

LEVEL OF EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE OR SKILL SET

Four-year college degree, or equivalent experience, and five years of experience as a enterprise-level systems engineer supporting infrastructure and security design, implementation and operations

Additional requisite knowledge and skills

  • Extensive enterprise physical, virtual and cloud infrastructure design, implementation and capacity planning experience encompassing vendor/product selection, public/private/hybrid virtual datacenter, Active Directory/DNS, data protection/backup

  • Ability to monitor and assess infrastructure for vulnerabilities, upgrades and improvements using best practices and advanced tools (e.g. centralized logging, performance monitoring, incident management) and lifecycle awareness

  • Enterprise security implementation experience including vendor/product selection, remote access (VPN, multi-factor authentication), server/endpoint protection (EDR, AV and firewall), mobile device management and data protection

  • Experiencedefining, documenting and testing Disaster Recovery/Business Continuity plans andleading response teams for disaster/availability events, vulnerability and threat assessments, and data, network or system intrusions

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with business leaders to understand and support divisional and department initiatives and goals

  • Strong written and verbal communications skills

MAJOR AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY

Technical

  1. Function as a technical subject matter expert for the evaluation, acquisition and implementation of technology solutions that support applications, and provide the technical capabilities, needed by the business

  2. Procure, implement and maintain infrastructure solutions that are consistent with the technology roadmap, e.g. public/private/hybrid virtual datacenter (VM, servers/memory/storage, backup), remote access (FortiClient VPN, multi-factor authentication), server/endpoint protection (SentinelOne, Solarwinds n-able RMM), user data protection and single

  3. Implement, configure and manage Microsoft cloud products (e.g. AZURE, Office365, Exchange365, SharePoint365, Active Directory)

  4. Define, manage and report service levels for infrastructure technology and services, (e.g. availability, capacity, performance, patching status), timely resolve service level issues

  5. Assess infrastructure for vulnerabilities, capacity constraints, cost reductions and upgrade opportunities using best practices, analytics (e.g. centralized logging, performance monitoring, incident management), vendor management and technology lifecycle awareness

  6. Support IS Helpdesk by providing Level 2-3 support for designated systems

Leadership:

  1. Foster a working environment that promotes innovation, teamwork and commitment by encouraging employees to willingly assist others, keep work current, meet deadlines and maintain a balanced work load

  2. Understand and support security policies and procedures; act as a liaison to effectively communicate security goals and create security awareness throughout the company

  3. Maintain current knowledge of technology trends and advancements to identify technology initiatives that supportcompany, division and department goals/objectives

  4. Co-lead team that defines, documents and tests the Disaster Recovery/Business Continuity plan and responses to disaster/availability events, security audits, vulnerability and threat assessments, and data, network or system intrusions

  5. Provide on-call after-hours support as needed.

  5. Provide training, work direction, and technical guidance for less experienced coworkers.

  6. Complete company provided or assigned training.

  7. Perform other duties as assigned.

  8. Require occasional travel less than 25% of the time
