VMware Senior DevOps Engineer – Threat Analysis Unit - Opportunity for Working Remotely in Minneapolis, Minnesota

VMware Carbon Black, the leader in advanced threat protection, is seeking a DevOps Engineer. This is a senior-level position in Cyber Security, targeted toward individuals with more than 7 years of experience. Educational and personal experience with network/systems administration, software development, and/or information security related work is necessary.

The position is embedded in the Threat Analysis Unit (TAU), a group focused on malware analysis, threat analysis, advanced product testing and the curation of content in Carbon Black products. You will handle supporting and expanding the platform that researchers use to investigate threat actors, make customer recommendations and configure our products at a global scale. The platform is built on VMware vSphere on Dedicated Hardware, various Amazon Web Services and Web based APIs in Golang.

As a DevOps Engineer you will have the opportunity to build out the platform as you see fit, but also contribute at the initial stages to research projects TAU works on. The platform and research work serves as a “proving ground” that will drive wider product direction within Carbon Black.

Job Role and Responsibility

  • Take ownership or support ongoing projects by assisting in the implementation, research, testing and documentation of security related projects.

  • Identify, assess, and correct performance issues across the TAU infrastructure.

  • Ensure that best practice security policies are implemented that protect vital corporate assets

  • Work closely with internal and external customers for product and service improvements.

  • Identification and development of automation capabilities within the TAU infrastructure.

  • Development of large-scale data flow related to the execution of malware executables.

  • Engage in and refine the entire lifecycle for services (both internal and external) —from inception and design, through deployment, operation and optimization.

  • Continuous Integration and management automation of cloud-based infrastructure and software using GitLab CI and proprietary internal tooling.

  • Ensuring cloud-based architectures meet availability and recoverability requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience with production environments built upon AWS

  • Experience with Identity and Access Management implementation such as AWS IAM

  • Experience with virtualization using VMware vSphere

  • Solid understanding/experience of web services, microservices, databases and relating infrastructure/architectures

  • Experience with any number of the following is a requirement: Go, PowerShell, Python, C#, or equivalent language

  • Ability to programmatically manage and manipulate large sets of data using exposed APIs

  • Excellent troubleshooting skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with networking and firewalls using VMware NSX-T or equivalent

  • Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC), such as Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, or Serverless

  • Production-grade monitoring and logging experience. Experience with any of Cloudwatch, Splunk, ELK, SignalFX, Wavefront a plus

  • Experience creating and/or developing analysis environments.

  • Experience with Endpoint Security products (e.g., Carbon Black suite, CrowdStrike, SentinelOne, Microsoft ATP, Symantec)

  • Strong analytical skills to define risk, identify potential threats, and develop action/mitigation plans. An ability to communicate these concepts to technical and non-technical audiences

  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to mentor/train staff, and develop comprehensive documentation

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with an ability to present technical risks and issues to non-technical audiences
