How you'll help us Keep Climbing (overview & key responsibilities)

Delta Air Lines, Inc. has multiple openings for Senior Database Administrators in Bloomington, Minnesota.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for all technical aspects of data analysis and database management, as well as providing basic project leadership, direction, and mentoring for junior members of the team.

  • Responsible for understanding, configuring, and managing database administration tools.

  • Research technology solutions and provide recommendations for implementation verbally or in writing to leadership or a broader group.

  • Lead root cause analysis efforts when major incidents occur.

  • Provide database support for business applications and schedule back up jobs for user databases.

  • Provide access control (password resets/account creation/deletion) and check IP compliance (violation report review, compliance updates, and compliance set ups).

  • Perform data life cycling and data replication activities.

  • Research connectivity issues and recurring errors in application databases.

  • Respond to database alerts and take appropriate actions.

  • Provide escalation for Level 1 and 2 Technical 24x7 support.

  • Create databases. Perform performance tuning and troubleshooting for databases.

  • Perform application database maintenance and provide technical assistance to users.

  • Manage and facilitate database object changes as part of the Software Development Lifecycle.

  • Ensure that metrics and alerts are properly in place to meet monitoring requirements.

  • Perform application database and OS scripting.

  • Review Information Protection compliance reports and notifications for individual databases and internal processes including compliance updates and compliance set ups.

  • Perform database recovery from logs, hot and cold backups, Export/Imports, and Disaster Recovery. Perform database creation, decommissioning, and database updates/migrations to higher/lower versions or cross platform migrations.

  • Monitor and report existing database Instance, Database, and Server activities for CPU, Memory, and Cach. and Log performance.

  • Recommend effective resource utilization/emergency recovery procedures.

  • Perform Business Continuity/Disaster Recovery activities during Business Continuity Plan events.

  • Plan, schedule, and help facilitate operating system software updates and patches (including third party tools) using change management and release management processes.

  • Implement database security, auditing features, and periodic reviews.

  • Conduct root cause analysis for repeated incidents.

  • Perform heterogeneous database interface deployment and support for various data interfaces with applications, Middleware interfaces and functionality deployment with database architecture.

  • Conduct team training and be responsible for resource management.

  • Research new technologies to address operations reliability and compliance.

  • Telecommuting permitted up to 50% of the time or 2-3 days a week.

What you need to succeed (minimum qualifications)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Information Systems Technologies, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field, and 5 years of experience in database administration or related.

Must have work experience in:

  • RedHat Linux versions 5, 6, and 7 on x86-64 platform;

  • *

Oracle GoldenGate versions 12 or 19;

  • Major vendor backup and recovery tools including Veritas NetBackup, Cohesity, or Actifio AGM;

  • *

Oracle Clusterware/Grid Infrastructure, VCS Clustering, or IBM DB2 HADR;

  • Korn, Bash Shell Scripting, or Windows PowerShell; and

  • *

Monitoring tools including Oracle Enterprise Manager.
