Job ID359861 LocationTwin Cities Job FamilyResearch-Researchers Full/Part TimeFull-Time Regular/TemporaryRegular Job Code9742R6 Employee ClassAcad Prof and Admin About the Job Summary of Position: A position is immediately available in the lab of Jeff Gralnick (Department of Plant and Microbial Biology, University of Minnesota) for a highly motivated researcher with experience in developing genetic methods to study recalcitrant environmental bacteria. The ideal candidate will have a PhD in microbiology, biochemistry, or a related field, a strong publication record, and experience in any of the following areas: microbial ecology, microbial bioreactors, microbial genetics, synthetic biology and microbial physiology. The position is for one year, and renewable annually depending on funding and performance. Essential and Other Functions: 80% Research The researcher will design and carryout experiments to understand the metabolism of methanogenic archaea. 15% Training, mentoring and teaching undergraduates The researcher will work with undergraduate and graduate students in the lab and is expected to foster the development of junior lab members. In addition, the researcher will work with Cathleen Kirkpatrick to develop and teach the Foundations II Lab Microbiome section. 5% Publication and presentation of data The researcher is expected to communicate their research findings through publication in peer-reviewed research journals and presentation at local and national meetings. Qualifications Essential Qualifications All applicants must have a PhD in microbiology, biochemistry, molecular biology, or a related field. Experience working with recalcitrant environmental bacteria (chemolithoautotrophs). Preferred Qualifications: Expertise in microbial genetics, genomics, biochemistry, anaerobic microbiology, and/or microbial physiology is desired.
