Job ID359753 LocationTwin Cities Job FamilyResearch-Support Full/Part TimeFull-Time Regular/TemporaryRegular Job Code8352P4 Employee ClassCivil Service About the Job Working Title: R&D Data Science Project Manager Position Title: Research Professional 4 (8352P4) The R&D Data Science Project Manager (PM) will primarily support two types of projects within the Center for Learning Health System Sciences' (CLHSS): 1) service requests (typically smaller projects) and 2) grant funded research (typically larger projects). The service requests are research and development projects requested by clients (e.g. physicians, MedTech startups), which are intended to support health care innovation. Service requests will often require scope refinement and clarification before the project team is assembled and under your management. You will work with your team and the client to manage scope, timing, and budget until the project's completion and closure. Grant funded research and development is often initiated by CLHSS members as the Principal Investigators (PIs) and will have you acting as the liaison between the research team (e.g. RAs, post docs, co-investigators from multiple institutions) and CLHSS resources (e.g. data sources, compute access, regulatory requirements, patient partners, etc.). You will be responsible for working with the PI to set up a project management structure that is compatible with their goals and work style preferences. With the PI's grant aims and research approach as the foundation, the PM's involvement should lead to more clarity about roles, responsibilities, and milestones, while also improving the quality of the science by enhancing team communication, collaboration, and trust. In order to accomplish this you will draw on your previous experience in a technical role and strong interpersonal skills as you will not be operating from a position with direct authority. CLHSS is organized as a matrixed organization. The PM will report to the Data Programs Manager and will be responsible for the management of service requests and grant projects as assigned and will interface and coordinate work with IT, clinical, and academic stakeholders. The PM will also work on internal CLHSS projects, most often with the Innovative Methods and Data Science (IMDS) and Natural Language Processing/Information Extraction (NLP/IE) leadership teams. This position receives general guidance and requires the ability to work well independently and as part of a team. The successful candidate will have strong analytical, technical, organization, project management, and communication (written and oral) skills to guide multiple multi-disciplinary teams and ensure deliverables are timely and meet requirements. This position also requires a high tolerance for ambiguity and the skill to develop clarity in a complicated system with multiple stakeholders. Technical project management (70%) Assist in project intake from service requests by helping to refine scope, estimate resources needed, and setting initial milestones. Provide project management to multidisciplinary teams conducting research and development initiatives. Break complex multifaceted research proposals into discrete interconnected pieces of work with clear outcomes defined and dependencies identified Manage graduate research assistants, coordinate staff resources with faculty expertise, monitor progress, and coordinate collaborative projects with other programs within the center Effectively manage stakeholder expectations and resource requirements to ensure ownership, alignment of shared resources, and success Partner with the M Health Fairview Learning Health System Program Manager and other staff for required resources and implementation of research projects Lead regular meetings with research teams to establish priorities, check progress, identify and resolve issues including distribu ion of updates and ensuring next steps are complete Create explanatory artifacts (e.g. slide deck, flow charts, gantt charts, risk register) that help get and keep each team in sync. Coordinate with appropriate pre- and post- award staff on grant preparation, submission, and management to various federal, state, and local funding sources. Assist in writing of study results, preparing reports, and disseminating findings Perform quality control checks of data and proper storage in accordance with IRB and audit requirements Programmatic support for Innovative Methods & Data Science (IMDS) & NLP program 30% Provide project management support for internal program projects (e.g. metrics tracking, annual report, development of educational materials, RA interviewing and hiring) Run weekly co-director's meetings and bi-weekly full team meetings. Partner with the CLHSS regulatory specialist to ensure that regulatory compliant standard operating procedures are followed throughout the IMDS and NLP/IE portfolio Serve as a key member of the CLHSS operations team to enhance the development and growth of CLHSS and its strategic goals Work with the CLHSS staff leadership team to develop CLHSS research project manager best practices, resources, and templates to assist in cross-training and onboarding project managers in CLHSS Program Descriptions: The Center for Learning Health System Sciences is a one of a kind partnership between the Medical School and School of Public Health with a goal to decrease the time it takes for science to make it from the lab to the clinic in pursuit of better health outcomes for the patients we serve.
