The professorship will hold a non-tenure term line in the Hubbard School. The successful applicant will teach the next generation of journalists and media entrepreneurs how to innovate in a fast-changing media environment. Candidates should have demonstrated industry expertise as editors, leaders and trailblazers in the business of journalism, launching new platforms and publications for reporting, and the ability to inspire a diverse student body. As a part-time non-tenure track faculty member, the successful candidate will help students appreciate the vital role of entrepreneurship in creating new business models to support journalism, and to advise the school on how to develop new platforms and systems to support visual journalism and multimedia storytelling. The School seeks someone to 1) contribute to advanced journalism courses in the School's recently renovated digital media labs, 2) develop curriculum around journalism entrepreneurship and media management, and 3) focus on building and strengthening partnerships between faculty and students with Twin Cities professional community and professional associations. Contract faculty members are also expected to be actively engaged industry leaders in regional, national and/or international professional communities, develop an understanding and participate in curriculum development and assessment relevant to their professional expertise, and participate in mentoring students for professional careers. The part-time, 9-month, non-tenure track faculty position is not benefits-eligible. It is renewable and carries the title of Professor depending on qualifications, including years of journalism leadership, editing, and professional journalism experience. This is a one year initial appointment with an anticipated start in September 2024. Appointments may be renewable based on need, funding, and performance. Qualifications Required Qualifications MA or equivalent professional degree in journalism or a closely-related field Five years or more of professional journalism experience Preferred Qualifications: Preferred candidates will be entrepreneurial journalism leaders who are passionate about training students. Preferred candidates will be deeply skilled in nonprofit journalism or media management, reporting, editing, and willing to embrace new methods and media. PhD or equivalent terminal degree Demonstrated excellence in teaching Five years or more of major-market regional or national experience as an editor or manager, with expertise in entrepreneurship, enterprise journalism writing, research and/or publishing with national or international recognition of professional achievements Ability to work with diverse students and stakeholders About the Department About the Hubbard School of Journalism and Mass Communication The Hubbard School of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Minnesota is part of the College of Liberal Arts and is accredited by the Accrediting Council for Journalism and Mass Communication. The Hubbard School offers majors in Strategic Communication - Advertising and Public Relations, Professional Journalism, and Media and Information; and minors in Media and Information and Digital Media Studies.
