A Day in the Life

We are looking for a Principal Strategic Sourcing Professional to join the Global Category Management team supporting Global Supply Chain for the market leader in medical device technology. This person will support Global Supply Chain Related Category Management and be assigned a Global (sub) Category for Transportation, Warehousing and Fulfilment. This person will work in strong partnership with the Global Category Directors for Transportation and Warehousing/Fulfillment, and with Medtronic’s Global and Regional Supply Chain Deliver teams. In this multi-faceted role, you will have the opportunity to make a significant impact on the storage and delivery of life-changing technology and contribute directly to our company mission to alleviate pain, restore health and extend life.

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.

  • Develop & support development of Global/Regional (sub) Category Sourcing Strategies in close coordination with functional and regional leadership

  • Support execution of Global Category sourcing initiatives (RFI’s/RFP’s) and lead global events for assigned (sub) Category including the strategic negotiations for the category

  • Understand economics and market conditions and ensure strategies are deployed to mitigate cost and impacts to quality and service.

  • Lead supplier analysis and selection processes, make/buy, outsourcing, and transitions required to support the category strategy.

  • Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) for the sub-categories in scope of responsibilities

Supplier Value Creation (Cost Optimization)

  • Support and develop long term strategy roadmaps to support functional requirements

  • Deploy all relevant indirect sourcing levers including rate negotiation, demand reduction, specification management and increasing spend under mgmt.

  • Identify and appropriately leverage technology innovation from the supply base

  • Use and develop analytics and metrics to identify, organize, and measure suppliers and create value creation opportunities

Supplier Performance Optimization

  • Support leadership goals to develop and manage strategic alliances for key spend areas

  • Support the functional requirements of quality and service ensuring the supply base has the capability and capacity to support Medtronic growth

  • Work in conjunction with the Center of Excellence team to deploy SRM programs and other best practices for all relevant suppliers across Medtronic

  • Conduct regular review of logistics financial results and provide input into financial forecasting process.

  • Lead & support RFP strategies and processes across multiple modes of transportation along with warehousing and fulfillment at a global level.

  • Prepare, manage, and analyze transportation cost optimization projects while driving best practices in transportation for sourcing and global freight operations.

  • Drive education for stakeholders on key supply chain strategies and policies to achieve broad alignment across stakeholders.

  • Utilize Lean methodologies to identify and eliminate waste in the value chain.

  • Provide options and recommendations to the business to balance cost, service, and inventory objectives.

  • Participate in contingency planning and risk management activities.

  • Define and document best-in-class procedures and playbooks for global team across a variety of scopes

  • Manage relationships with Operational Network supply chain leaders, manufacturing sites, and DC operations

Skills/Competencies

  • Self-starter and able to establish relationships, and work with remote teams of professionals and able to work independently to achieve objectives.

  • Knowledge and expertise regarding multiple modes of transportation (Parcel, Airfreight & Ocean freight (FCL/LCL), Truckload/Less-than-Truckload, Courier), Brokerage Services and 3PL Warehousing

  • Excellent written and verbal analytical and presentation communication skills in English

  • Experience in working with ERPs (preferably SAP) and Transportation Management Systems (TMS)

  • Experience with working with modern Sourcing Tools such as Ariba Guided Buying and Transporeon Sourcing Optimizer

  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross department teams (virtual and in person).

  • Discretion with confidential or sensitive information.

Must Have: Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required

  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years relevant experience

Nice to Have

  • MBA or master’s in supply chain

  • English language skills (verbal and written)

  • Knowledge of working in FDA regulated industries

  • Previous experience in a medical device/life sciences industry

  • An additional accreditation in procurement such as CIPS / CPM or relevant equivalent working experience

  • Proven proficiency in: Project Management, the systems and tools used throughout Operations and Supply Management (e.g. Ariba, SAP, BU specific tools/systems etc.)

  • Awareness of technical aspects of procurement (such as use of data, Special /Requirement Development, Cost Comparison, Cost Analysis, Root Cause/Corrective Action)

  • Track record in achieving cost savings and contract implementation and management

  • Knowledge of the Procure-to-Pay process

  • Previous roles in Global or Regional Transportation and Logistics Supply Chain

  • Experience implementing or supporting a TMS (Transportation Management System)

  • Experience with imperfect data and data quality enhancements

  • Previous experience in operational optimization or supply chain project management

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):120,000

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
