We are builders at heart, working to ensure the built environment has a lasting positive impact.Let's Redefine Possible SUMMARY Mortenson is currently seeking an experienced Design Engineer III or IV - Time Domain Power Studies Focus, responsible for a broad range of detailed engineering designs for high voltage substation, collection, and transmission projects through 500 kV. You will be responsible for working closely with other engineering and design team members to coordinate the overall design package and requirements. The main focus of this position will be time domain simulations like TOV and Harmonics using software like PSCAD. Even though the emphasis is on time domain simulations, the engineer is expected to fill in for phasor domain simulations, using software like PSSE, when needed. A big plus is having experience in dynamic simulations, such as PRC-024 and MOD-026, using PSSE. Hiring Locations: MN, TX, AZ, CO The base compensation range for this role in Denver, CO is $110,000 - $165,000. (Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL - 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR - 10, Washington, D.C. - 12.5%). RESPONSIBILITIES Minimum 4+ years of related work experience in time domain simulations Responsible for working closely with other engineering and design team members to coordinate the overall design package and requirements Evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria by using judgment in making adaptations and modifications and providing interpretations and conclusions with support from other Engineers Responsible for the relay protection & control engineering aspects of substation and transmission design projects Interface and present to multiple stakeholders (e.g. customer decision-makers, project teams, etc.) Perform data analysis and basic engineering tasks for completion of small projects F. Perform basic engineering calculations required for simple designs across 69Kv and above scopes Assist with the review and approval of equipment vendor drawings and test reports on equipment from manufacturers with Lead Engineer's review and approval Provide engineering support for proposals, estimating, procurement, and construction Conduct project detailed designs aligned with our customer requirements and Mortenson's best practice standards Coordinate with other engineering disciplines and Design Phase Managers to successfully deliver design projects Verify that construction agrees with electrical engineering design drawings, including preparatory meetings, and QA/QC Assist in the development and evaluation of the technical requirements for fabrication and construction tender packages Assist in researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations, and preparing and presenting recommendations Assist field personnel in resolving unanticipated site conditions Experienced in electrical power engineering theories and principles. Experienced in researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations, and preparing and presenting recommendations. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to travel up to 10%. QUALIFICATION and EDUCATION: Graduate of a Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or related Engineering program. Strongly preferred degree is from a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum. Professional Engineering (PE) certification or achievement of PE within 6 months of entering this role.
