Job ID356438 LocationTwin Cities Job FamilyAcademic Full/Part TimeFull-Time Regular/TemporaryRegular Job Code9546 Employee ClassAcad Prof and Admin About the Job Duties: This position includes duties related to managing a applied dairy research laboratory, including: maintenance of laboratory records inventory management in collaboration with lab manager SOP development for funded projects sample submission and tracking QC of laboratory processes Other duties may include novel assay development and advanced laboratory techniques, which will be determined by ongoing projects and needs within the lab group. These duties will require creativity, critical thinking, persistence and high-level troubleshooting. Duties will also include a training/mentoring component: assist graduate and undergraduate student as well as visiting scholars with project planning and implementation, statistical analysis, and manuscript preparation comprehensive laboratory training of all incoming laboratory personnel management of graduate/undergraduate students and other staff support of student projects, including both routine and non-routine sample processing lead field research activities Effort: 60% of time will be spent in the office: manuscript and grant proposals preparation assistance and mentorship of graduate students oversight of projects in the laboratory management of undergrads and trainees schedule - in collaboration with lab manager 20% of time will be spent on lab-related administrative tasks, including: maintenance of laboratory records inventory management purchasing SOP development 20% of time will be spent on field sampling, including: blood samples from adult cows and calves visual locomotion scoring dairy cows Qualifications Required Qualifications: PhD in Animal Science, Veterinary Science, or related field At least 4 years experience working in a laboratory and/or dairy cattle research setting (may include graduate training years) High-level problem solving and critical thinking skills Coursework and/or hands-on experience in statistical analysis Experience with biostatistics Ability to work independently yet collaboratively Strong work ethic with demonstrated productivity Solid writing and communication skills Strong background in data analysis of epidemiological datasets Demonstrated experience managing a diverse team and a diverse portfolio of activities Desire to progress rapidly and to take ownership of teams, tasks and projects Demonstrated ability to identify challenges and to develop and implement solutions for overcoming them Preferred Qualifications: At least 4 years experience with applied dairy cattle research R and Github coding experience is strongly encouraged Experience with molecular biological techniques including qPCR, DNA/RNA extraction At least 2 first-author publications in peer-reviewed, scientific journals Benefits Working at the University At the University of Minnesota, you'll find a flexible work environment and supportive colleagues who are interested in lifelong learning.
