The PEAK Initiative is currently implementing Phase 2 of a multi-year implementation across colleges, campuses, and units within the University system. PEAK will identify opportunities across non-academic functions to increase efficiency, gain capacity, and steer our teaching, research, and outreach mission into the future. The PEAK Project Office operates as a team with functional stakeholders in Finance, Human Resources, Marketing and Communications and Information Technology. This position will serve as the project manager for the largest PEAK workstream: Unit Transition. The Unit Transition workstream includes Process Discovery and Workforce Transition aspects of the PEAK implementation and has significant contact with a wide variety of units at the University of Minnesota. The project manager will partner closely with the Unit Transition workstream lead, the PEAK program manager, and other project management, workstream and functional leaders. and is responsible for overseeing workstream progress, milestones, and risks and issues. We are seeking a candidate with strong project management and organizational skills who has the ability to build relationships and work in a collaborative environment. Note: This role is heavily focused on work and people movement as part of the PEAK implementation and is not a technology project management role. The project manager is responsible for managing the workstream project plan and proactively planning for and anticipating the work ahead. On a daily basis, this includes driving project tasks to completion, tracking project milestones and progress, and coordinating the resolution of program issues, risks, and decisions within the workstream. This position will also support project governance needs, including updating progress metrics and status updates in collaboration with the PEAK program manager. As the PEAK Project Office continues to shift from leveraging external consultants to internal resources, the Unit Transition project manager will play an important role in knowledge transfer to the PEAK Office for this workstream. They will also actively collect and review continuous improvement ideas with the workstream lead to consider for future phases of PEAK. We are seeking a candidate with strong project management skills who has the ability to successfully navigate ambiguity and drive progress on large, cross-organizational projects. Prior experience with HR initiatives and organizational change is a plus. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Percent Functions 80% Project Management Support Maintains project management standards, tools, and plan for the workstream Partners with the workstream lead, program manager, other project managers and leaders within the functional areas to understand and support project needs required to develop and deliver solutions Partners with functional areas to ensure all workstream deliverables meet requirements and follow initiative standards Maintains regular workstream status reporting and prepares workstream presentations and summaries as needed Prepares agendas and documentation for the workstream, providing support for both internal team meetings and unit facing meetings Manages issues and risks for the workstream with the workstream lead, escalating RAID items as appropriate for resolution Partners with analyst resources on necessary reporting to support the workstream, handling confidential information with appropriate level of sensitivity and professionalism 10% Planning & Continuous Improvement Conducts retrospectives/lessons learned for key milestones Partners with program manager on continuous improvement opportunities Supports planning activities for future PEAK phases as needed 10% Professional Development Continue to develop subject matter expertise in project management and change management techniques The salary range is $101,000 - $135,000 annually and is commensurate with experience. The PEAK Project Team operates as a hybrid team. There is flexibility for what hybrid looks like, however there will be occasional on-site participation based on the job requirements.
