Fairview Health Services Nursing Station Technician-Observation Unit in Minneapolis, Minnesota

Overview

The Nursing Station Technician on the Observation team will help adult patients with outpatient care, much like an ED. We are an 18 bed unit that delivers excellent patient care to patients from same day surgery as well as transfers from all units; lots of variety!

This position works a .7 FTE (56 hours per 2 week pay period), at 8-hour shifts, night shift (11:00pm-7:30am), with every other weekend rotation.

Responsibilities

Are you ready to kickstart your next engaging career in healthcare? Look no further! This exciting opportunity is a hybrid position consisting of both Nursing Assistant and Health Unit Coordinator roles to deliver direct patient care and administrative duties.

In this role, you will work under the direct supervision of a professional nurse to demonstrate excellent customer service, teamwork and communication skills with patients, families, and the healthcare team on a fasted paced unit. Other job duties include:

  • Patient care tasks such as personal hygiene, vitals, daily activities, repositioning, transporting, and feeding

  • Maintaining unit desk area functions such as answering phones, processing admissions, discharging and transferring forms, transcribing orders, assembling patient charts and ordering tests

  • Setting up and maintaining patient rooms

  • Ordering and stocking of supplies

  • Keywords: NST / NA / HUC

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS for Healthcare Providers) certification required. Ontrack participants needs to acquire the certification upon completion of the OnTrack program.

And one of the following:

  • Six months of recent direct care experience in a long term, home care or acute care setting

Or

  • Current enrollment in an LPN, RN or Nurse Practitioner program, and completion of one (1) semester of clinical rotation within the program

Or

  • Current certification on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry upon hire. This requirement does not need to be maintained throughout employment and is not required if subsequently transferring into another Nursing Assistant or Nursing Station Tech

NOTE: Individuals who have completed a Nursing Assistant program and are scheduled to take the NA Registry exam will be granted 90 days post hire to become active on the registry.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience as a Health Unit Coordinator, Nursing Assistant, or other related experience

Vaccination Update
