They partner with staff in the Cataloging, Metadata, and Digitization Services Department to support cataloging projects that resolve issues related to the catalog and library metadata. This position also performs project support for department and library initiatives. Assigned ResponsibilitiesCopy Cataloging/Metadata (65%) Performs copy cataloging of e-books, streaming videos, and outsourced materials; completes copy cataloging in a variety of formats, and resolves straightforward cataloging problems. Follows departmental and/or system-wide cataloging practices and procedures to provide efficiency and quality. Using Alma and OCLC Connexion Client, loads and/or changes bibliographic records. Project Support (30%) Provides support for the Metadata Specialist in authority work, subject heading updates, and other cataloging and metadata projects. Interact with other department members to problem-solve and troubleshoot project issues. Consults with and advises supervisors to improve efficiencies for workflows. Other duties as assigned (5%) Provide support for department initiatives as needed. Qualifications Required: Experience copy cataloging library resources. Experience working with OCLC Connexion. Knowledge of cataloging and metadata workflows and services. Knowledge of Library of Congress Subject Headings Genre terms and MARC fields used for accessible resources such as closed captioning. Evidence of effective project management skills and the ability to meet deadlines and follow regular workflows. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Preferred: Experience with manipulating and loading MARC records into a library management system. Knowledge of Library of Congress Subject Headings, Library of Congress Classification Systems, and Original Resource Description and Access (RDA). Experience with the ExLibris Alma or similar library services platform. Familiarity with cataloging foreign language materials. Experience cataloging electronic resources. About the Department Service Area Overview: The Collections & Content Strategy service area provides leadership in the development, discovery, and long term stewardship of the University of Minnesota Libraries' wide-ranging collections. With over 7.7 million print volumes, and millions of electronic resources, the University of Minnesota Libraries' research collections address all current and emerging areas of study at the University. Our collections are amongst the largest in the country. C&CS directs and oversees the acquisition, licensing, description, and discovery of content to meet the needs of the University community and all those interested in our collections. We also facilitate access to resources held at our extensive network of partner libraries throughout the world. The C&CS service area also develops and stewards the technologies and systems that support the metadata, fulfillment, and discovery of our robust resources for both the Twin Cities campus and the system campus libraries. We provide digitization, management, and preservation of the Libraries' physical collections to ensure long-term, broad access to those resources in our possession. Our aim is to increase access to, and awareness of, unique resources for scholars throughout the world. We also provide s rvices and expertise to campus content creators on our collections, intellectual property rights, and copyright information while advocating for sustainable models for scholarly communication and information sharing.
