Bachman's Inc. Manager of Safety and Loss Prevention in Minneapolis, Minnesota

Bachman’s was founded in 1885 and remains a family-owned business, with fifth-generation Bachman family members leading the company today. Bachman’s operates six full-service Floral, Gift & Garden Centers throughout the Twin Cities, a shop in the Galleria, a Hardscapes Center in Farmington, and 28 floral departments within Lunds & Byerlys grocery stores. Additionally, Bachman’s operates indoor and outdoor landscaping divisions, a weddings and special events department, a wholesale nursery division, seven acres of greenhouses, and a 670-acre growing range in Lakeville, Minn., which produces many of the plants, flowers, and landscaping products sold by Bachman’s today.


  • Develop and implement safety awareness programs for the Company. Ensure compliance with all MNOSHA and MN Department of Agriculture rules and regulations. Co-chair all Bachman’s safety committees. Monitor all working environments for safety compliance, violations, and potential safety hazards. Recommend corrective action for violations and hazards. Advise management as needed.

  • Supervise the implementation of and compliance with all safety training requirements for Right-to-Know, Worker Protection Standards, personal protective equipment, and hazard communications. Ensure compliance with all licensing and record keeping requirements for safety training, Safety Data Sheets, hazardous waste disposal.

  • Supervise accident reviews for all general liability claims. Conduct further investigations as needed. Work with Bachman’s general liability insurance carrier to resolve claims. Initiate work comp claims investigations as needed and in conjunction with Human Resources and Bachman’s work comp insurance provider.

  • Enforce Bachman’s corporate policies and procedures relating to inventory management, facility security, and POS transaction integrity. Conduct investigations into potential situations of theft, fraud, dishonesty and vandalism.

  • Develop, implement and conduct loss prevention training programs to all levels of management.

  • Work with Managers and Directors to enhance loss prevention awareness and communications at all locations.

  • Conduct audits of paperwork, procedure and systems to ensure compliance with company policy.

  • Collaborate with law enforcement and Bachman’s insurance providers as needed to resolve issues.

  • Maintain Bachman’s physical infrastructure security program that includes but is not limited to building access control, burglary and intrusion alarms, fire detection and suppression systems, video surveillance systems.

  • Ensure adequate records are kept for all security infrastructure programs and that records are updated regularly.

  • Provide recommendations and help provide upgrades and solutions in potential crisis situations such as work place harassment, work place violence, civil unrest, etc.


  • Bachelor of Science Degree or equivalent experience in social science or related field (criminology, law enforcement, etc.).

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in retail loss prevention and safety. Multi-store experience desired.

  • Working knowledge of safety and environmental regulations for industrial, retail, and nursery production settings.

  • MNOSHA 30 hour certification for general industry required.

  • CSP (Certified Safety Professional) desirable.

  • Loss Prevention Institute LPC/LPQ or similar certification desired.

  • Wicklander-Zulawski or similar certification desired.

  • Demonstrated experience in group presentation and training settings.

  • Must have excellent leadership and supervisory skills

  • Experience in general liability and worker’s compensation insurance management and processing.

  • Ability to influence across all levels of the company.

  • Background in DOT regulations a plus.

  • Cyber security background a plus.
