ABOUT YOU:

The Director of Event Management is responsible for the development and execution of the business strategy for the Event Management team. This role owns their department's overall direction, team assignments, budget, and project management and meets regularly with business unit leaders to ensure stakeholder satisfaction and clarity. Managing a direct team of event planners and working closely with marketing and sales leaders, the incumbent operates at both strategic and tactical levels of event planning and execution, understanding and translating business objectives into effective event experiences. Supported events include live and/or virtual national sales meetings, proprietary industry/customer events, national convention exhibits, and others as assigned.

Incumbents of this role are required to be on call and/or available after hours, to provide their own mobile device, and to distribute their mobile phone number accordingly. Alternatively, individuals may distribute their office phone number if their office phone is set to forward calls to their personal device when they are not physically present.

YOU HAVE:

  • Education. Bachelor’s degree in business or related field. Preferred CMP certification.

  • Experience. 10+ years working in the events and convention industry, with 7+ years as the primary owner of events with 1-2k attendees. Expertise in hotel/convention facility operations (convention space, catering and A/V) and hotel reservation system operations. Extensive knowledge of event vendors, technology, trends, and best practices.

  • Travel. Ability to travel as needed, including weekends.

  • Technical skills. Experience with CVENT. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite. Salesforce experience a plus.

  • Innovation and agility. Strong capacity for creative, innovative, strategic and conceptual thinking; ability to contribute creative ideas to program planning. Ability to work with a sense of urgency and deliver under tight deadlines/time frames; prioritize workload. Ability to manage and adapt to change/changing priorities. Problem solving skills - anticipating, initiating, and resolving issues.

  • Managment. Strong team leadership skills. Ability to prioritize tasks and delegate.

  • Financial literacy. Excellent financial acumen, strong experience in budgeting and pricing models/policies.

  • Great communication skills. Excellent interpersonal communication (written and verbal) and customer service skills. Strong negotiation skills. Ability to present and lead internal meetings to identify goals and develop event experience strategies. Enthusiastic, motivated, and collaborative work style.

    YOU WILL:

  • Support. Lead the Event Management team, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and customer satisfaction. Prioritize and delegate deliverables within the team. Support the professional development of team members.

  • Update and maintain. Maintain strong relationships and communication with cross-functional partners, including business unit leaders, marketers, IT, and creative teams, to drive alignment, efficiency, and execution of events that meet business objectives. Lead executive strategy presentations for cross-functional buy-in and approval.

  • Measure. Develop KPIs, create analytics to track event engagement and conversion, and communicate insights and opportunities to executive leadership.

  • Strengthen. Oversee and execute Jostens customer and corporate events in both “live” and “virtual” environments, including site selection, technology inspection, off-site activities, transportation, hotel arrangements, identifying, retaining, and managing external resources as necessary, vendor contract negotiations, budget preparation and monitoring, onsite management and financial reconciliation.

  • Budget. Oversee a comprehensive budget tracking system in close partnership with the Finance department. Plan and reconcile event budgets and report on savings and efficiencies.

  • Manage. Supervise 5 direct reports. Participate in decisions related to the selection, promotion, transfer, pay, and discipline of assigned personnel. Clearly communicate job duties and responsibilities to enable individuals to proceed with certainty in the performance of their positions. Monitor the work performance of assigned personnel on a continual basis; conduct effective performance reviews; take corrective action whenever necessary and, where necessary, work with HR Generalists to establish performance improvement plans. Support the development of assigned personnel’s skills and abilities and demonstrate by personal example the desired standards of conduct (Jostens values) and work performance. Identify and resolve skill gaps and succession issues. Administer Company policies with regard to discipline, absenteeism, etc., in a fair and equitable manner and fully document all incidents and actions taken. Involve assigned HR Generalist on compliance issues such as pay equity, equal opportunity in hiring and promotions, and proper procedures for hiring, terminations, lay-offs, etc.
