Job Description Summary of Position The Career and Pre-Professional Specialist will provide career coaching in the Strommen Center working with students and alumni from all of Augsburg's programs and will support and maintain a high-quality pre-health program including advising pre-health students directly. This position will also serve as the content specialist to support students and alumni interested in professional programs such as MBA, Law, and Health Professions. This position will provide career services to students and alumni through individual and group coaching, assessments, classroom presentations, events, and other channels both in-person and virtually, and collaborate with academic departments to provide career development programming and curriculum. This position will support and advise current students and alumni considering professional graduate studies by assisting with the application process, information on entrance exams, fee waiver applications, interviews, experience requirements, and related preparation. Primary Responsibilities Provide individual and group coaching to students and assist students in clarifying academic and career goals, selecting a major, career exploration, internship searches, and graduate school options. Help students develop and refine resumes and cover letters, coach students on interviewing and internship and job-search skills including strategies for career discovery and job-search. Advise students and alumni interested in MBA, Law, health or medical careers including MD, DO, PA, DDS, DVM, PT, OT, MPH, PharmD, etc. Help students develop a personalized plan that includes academic and co-curricular activities to make them competitive candidates for graduate school. Coach and mentor students with writing for professional and graduate school applications. Prepare applicants for traditional interviews, Multiple Mini Interviews, and grad school visits. Facilitate classroom presentations on career related topics; develop and implement events tailored for specific majors or populations in collaboration with academic departments/divisions. Create content for Strommen Center web resources, including information about pre-professional opportunities. Collaborate with colleagues on planning and execution of career events such as job fairs, workshops, information sessions, networking events, mock interviews, and special topic seminars. Represent Strommen Center for Meaningful Work at campus events such as orientation, admissions events, summer advising days, and other student information sessions. Additional Responsibilities Research current trends, best practices, and emerging recruiting practices to ensure that resource information is current and relevant. Stay current on best practices for health professions preparation. Other duties as apparent or assigned by supervisor(s). Work Environment and Physical Demands Typical work e vironment is an office. Sedentary work for long periods of time. Regular computer and phone use. Some events take place outside of the typical work-week and may require evening or weekend hours. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in related field. Minimum three (3) years of relevant experience in higher education, healthcare, or career counseling. Previous experience in a healthcare career advising capacity. Knowledge of and interest in the writing process, ability to evaluate and coach students' writing. Preferred Qualifications Master's Degree in related field. Experience in student advising. Knowledge of pre-professional and health professions. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a diverse work environment. Ability to work independently. Ability to reason, analyze, maintain confidentiality, and demonstrate patience and understanding. Ability to show initiative, organize workflow, manage projects, and handle frequent interruptions. Ability to oversee multiple tasks with attention to detail.
