Job Description

Advising Operations Coordinator position provides work leadership, and vision in implementing and expanding academic advising offered through the Advising and Access Center with an emphasis on improving student success, persistence, retention, and completion. Along with the Director of Advising, the position establishes operating procedures and processes, including budget, program goals, and work plans, for projects within the Academic Advising Department and Advising and Access Center. In collaboration with the college’s department chairs, faculty, and staff, the Advising Operations Coordinator will support programing and opportunities designed to foster personal and professional growth and skill development for students.

Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Provide day-to-day guidance and support of personnel, including work direction to advisors.

  • Creating trainings, professional development, and onboarding for advisors.

  • Act as a liaison and point person between Advising and other College offices including, but not limited to, Student Services (Records & Registration, Financial Aid, Bills & Payments), Admissions, and the Academic Success Center to promote student retention, success, and engagement, as well as external transfer partners.

  • The supervisory functions of hiring, coaching, recognition, assigning work, scheduling coverage, performance management, and evaluating work performance for student employees.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experienced working with post-secondary students or students who are preparing for post-secondary enrollment, including but not limited to: academic advising, career counseling, financial aid, admissions, records/registration, guidance counseling, or other support functions.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of college student development.

  • Strong problem-solving skills, including the ability to identify and clarify problems or issues and to prepare and execute possible solutions under the direction of a supervisor.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including listening, speaking, writing and the ability to deal tactfully with diverse populations in a positive, courteous, and helpful manner.

  • Awareness of research and evaluation methodologies sufficient to determine project/program effectiveness.

  • Demonstrated self-starter with strong organizational and leadership skills.

  • Demonstrates an ongoing understanding of cultural fluency. Incorporates culturally responsive practices, and actively engages in antiracism professional development learning opportunities.

Other Requirement

Current and former employees must be in good standing with Minneapolis College to be considered for the position.

Work Shift

Mondays through Fridays 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with occasionally evenings as needed.

Telework

This position may be eligible for partial telework per the Minneapolis College's Telework Guidelines.

Pay Range

MnSCU Academic Professional 2: $25.29 – $36.71 hourly / $52,806 – $76,650 annually.
