Adjunct Teaching Specialists (instructors) work primarily with and are managed by the departmental course curriculum Level Lead(s) to receive curriculum, training, support and communication. AVAILABILITY We are currently looking to hire 3 adjunct instructors to begin in Fall 2024, one for each of the following courses. Read more about each class at lead.umn.edu/courses: LEAD 1961W: Personal Leadership in the University (online) Fully asynchronous online course (no live meetings) Newly hired instructor will teach in Fall 2024 with a student teaching assistant using provided curriculum LEAD 1961W: Personal Leadership in the University (in-person) Newly hired instructor will teach in Fall 2024 with a student teaching assistant using provided curriculum Must be available to teach in-person in Fall 2024 during one of the following course times: MW 9:45 AM - 11:00 AM MW 2:30 PM - 3:45 PM TR 2:30 PM - 3:45 PM LEAD 3971: Field Experience (in-person) Newly hired instructor will co-teach with a returning instructor in Fall 2024 leading to solo teaching in Spring 2025 with a teaching assistant Must be available to teach in-person in Fall 2024 during one of the following course times: MW 9:45 AM - 11:00 AM MW 11:000 AM - 12:15 PM TTh 1:00 PM - 2:15 PM Must be available to teach in subsequent semesters after Fall 2024 in a class section that meets twice a week for 75 minutes between 8AM and 4PM EXPECTATIONS Expectations for All Leadership Minor Instructors: Complete the onboarding process with the direction of your course Level Lead(s) Teach one of the four core courses of the Leadership Minor, including but not limited to facilitating classroom discussions for up to 26 students per section, offering constructive feedback, coaching and grading on student work and engagement, and mentoring Leadership Minor Interns (Teaching Assistants). Utilize program curriculum resources (lesson plans and Canvas Learning Management System) to create an interactive learning experience for students consistent with other sections, offering feedback to the program for continued refinement of curricular strategies Maintain consistent communication with students, including availability to meet outside of class Balance accountability, coaching, and support while supporting student development Utilize campus resources for student support and development Support department goals for assessment and evaluation Continue personal development within higher education, racial and social justice, leadership education and development, and teaching pedagogies Complete required University of Minnesota training (e.g., FERPA, Sexual Misconduct, etc) Participate in departmental assessment and evaluation initiatives Meet Teaching Expectations as outlined in more detail at z.umn.edu/leadteachexp Additional Expectations for LEAD 3971: Field Experience Instructors: Manage 6-10 community partnerships per semester (2-4 students per partnership in spring and fall; 1 student per project in summer). Build on established or develop new relationships with community partner organizations. Meet with partners to discuss their needs, understand their contexts, and offer support throughout the semester as they work with our students. Support students and field groups via emails and/or meeting during the semester to discuss their field work project. Support and hold individuals and teams accountable in their field work with community partners. Coach and connect with students during the semester to make meaning of the experience and troubleshoot communication issues as needed. Serve as a liaison betw en the community partner and students when issues or concerns arise. *The Employer retains the right to change or assign other duties to this position. Qualifications Required Qualifications for all LEAD course levels: Master's Degree or higher Experience delivering high-quality, equity-driven, student-centered instruction (includes K-12 teaching) Experience with student leadership development Meets availability expectations listed above for relevant course Preferred Qualifications for all LEAD course levels: College or university-level teaching experience Experience teaching in culturally-responsive learning environments Experience teaching about social identities including race and concepts of privilege, oppression and equity Knowledge of student development How To Apply Applications must be submitted online.
