The successful candidate will lead and contribute to research initiatives aimed at improving surgical training, educational methodologies, and outcomes. A key expectation of this role is the ability to secure external funding for research, as well as assist clinical faculty in obtaining funding for projects within the field of surgical education. Key Responsibilities: Research Leadership: Work closely with the Vice Chair for Education to lead the development and implementation of research projects in surgical education, including curriculum design, simulation training, competency assessments, and learner outcomes. Grant Writing and Funding Acquisition: Proactively pursue and secure external funding (e.g., NIH, foundations) for research initiatives in surgical education. Collaborate with clinical faculty to assist them in securing grants and other funding opportunities. Collaboration and Mentorship: Work closely with clinical faculty, surgical educators, and trainees to foster research collaborations and advance shared educational goals. Publication and Dissemination: Prepare and publish high-quality research articles, conference presentations, and other scholarly outputs in peer-reviewed journals and at academic meetings. Program Development: Develop innovative educational tools and interventions to enhance surgical education, utilizing evidence-based research. Evaluation and Assessment: Conduct rigorous evaluations of educational programs, simulations, and curricula to ensure continuous improvement and effectiveness. Professional Development: Stay updated on trends and best practices in surgical education and research methodologies. Qualifications Qualifications: PhD in Medical Education, Health Sciences, or a related field. Experience working in a clinical or surgical education environment, preferably collaborating with clinical faculty. Strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals. Excellent grant writing, research design, and data analysis skills. Ability to work collaboratively and mentor clinical faculty and trainees in research methodologies and grant applications. Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple research projects simultaneously. Preferred Qualifications: Experience with surgical simulation, assessment of technical skills, or competency-based medical education. Familiarity with NIH or other major educational funding bodies and their application processes.
