Job Overview
We are seeking a Thermal Processing Manager to lead and enhance our heat treatment and material processes. In this role, you will oversee metallurgical evaluations, supplier assessments, and process improvements while collaborating with cross-functional teams to drive innovation. Key Job Responsibilities
Lead thermal processing and material initiatives, including heat treatment, forging, casting, and plate processes.
Evaluate metallurgical samples and suppliers to ensure quality and compliance.
Develop and refine procedures governing material selection, heat treatment, and process governance.
Research and implement new technologies for process improvements and cost reduction.
Drive efficiency and innovation by leading cross-functional teams, including engineering, quality, logistics, commercial, and supply chain.
Support current supply chain processes for heat treatment, casting, forging, and plate.
Review and revise material specifications, including material substitutions for international manufacturing.
Develop and execute short-term and long-term strategic plans for thermal process improvements.
Review current quality processes, identify gaps, and implement improvements to enhance first pass yield and reduce warranty claims.
Manage and lead the Materials Collaboration group and North America Heat Treat Collaboration group.
Provide project updates and reports to executive management.
Qualifications/Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Material Science, Metallurgy, or a related field. Relevant experience in materials or project management will also be considered.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in metallurgy, materials engineering, or project management.
Prior people management experience preferred; this role will have two direct reports (Metallurgical Engineers).
Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple initiatives within set deadlines.
Ability to analyze and solve complex problems in material processing and manufacturing.
Experience interpreting engineering drawings, technical specifications, and test results.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a strong focus on collaboration and customer service.
Knowledge of heavy equipment, manufacturing processes, and metallurgical testing equipment (e.g., microscope, microhardness tester, metallurgical saw, polishing equipment, fume hoods) preferred.
