What you will do:

Johnson Controls is developing the next generation of smart and connected by making building more intelligent. A smarter building is safer, more comfortable, more efficient and ultimately, more sustainable.

As the cornerstone of a smarter building, building automation systems provide the nucleus to provide better customer outcomes. This position will focus on the evolution of our building automation hardware platform. As the lead customer advocate, you will lead a cross-functional team responsible for product development, engineering, sales, marketing, operations, and customer success.

The successful candidate is accountable for virtually all aspects of the product business without having direct authority over the resources required to deliver the results.

How you will do it:

  • Define the product strategy and roadmap across all regions and sales channels

  • Deliver the Market and Product Requirements Documents with prioritized features and corresponding justification based on robust market research, voice of customer/voice of market, competitive plans, and strategic insight.

  • Be the customer advocate, define the customer value proposition that is sustainable and differentiated, and be the resident expert on the competition.

  • Develop and deliver the lifecycle business plan, securing alignment and commitment from all relevant functions.

  • Closely collaborate with sales to define correct channels of distribution to optimize market coverage.

  • Set strategic market-based pricing and work with the regions to ensure revenue and profitability goals are met.

  • Develop core positioning and messaging for the product or portfolio.

  • Define and deliver annual revenue, market share and profitability targets.

What we look for:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Business or related field of study is highly desired.

  • 10+ years of experience in product management, sales, and/or engineering within the automation industry.

  • Industry experiences working with competitive offerings

  • Experience working in specialized vertical markets (pharmaceuticals, data centers, etc.)

  • Strategic communicator. Comfortable presenting at both the C-level and to highly technical audiences (chief engineers, consulting engineers, building operators).

  • Strong listening and customer development skills to uncover unmet needs, pain points, and use cases

  • Deep understanding of smart building technology, HVAC systems including central utility plants, building automation systems, and a desire to understand emerging technologies

  • Experience developing business plans and value-based pricing models

  • Experience leading matrix-teams. Strong consensus building, conflict resolution, and persuasive skills

  • Agility, curiosity, self-directed learning, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
