The School of Rehabilitation Sciences & Technology (RS&T) offers programs in Assistive Technology and Accessible Design, Athletic Training, Physical Therapy, Communication Sciences & Disorders, Occupational Therapy, Performance Psychology, Rehabilitation Science, and Therapeutic Recreation. The Department has a strong focus on Interprofessional education, research excellence and technology and resides in a diverse metropolitan setting.

The Rehabilitation Research Design & Disability Center (R2D2) performs interdisciplinary basic research investigations, applied research and development, and innovative instruction related to technology and disability. The R2D2 Center has primary partners at other universities and agencies for many of our funded projects and activities including Columbia University, University of New Mexico, Marquette University, and Independence First. The R2D2 Center also affiliates with multiple colleges, schools, and service programs in the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Currently, key linkages exist with the School of Rehabilitation Sciences and Technology, the Occupational Therapy Sciences and Technology program, College of Community Engagement and Professions, the College of Arts and Architecture, College of Engineering and Applied Science, and campus programs including the Accessibility Resource Center, University Information Technology Services, and Campus Planning and Management.

Job Summary

Job Summary:

The Outreach Program Coordinator position is a part-time position at 50%-60% (flexibility based on candidate availability). The Outreach Program Coordinator will coordinate community outreach activities for the R2D2 Center, particularly to launch the 2023 initiated Access Ratings for Buildings federal funded projects and to support related app-based projects in close coordination with the R2D2 Center and its university and agency project partners.

In addition, the Outreach Program Coordinator will contribute to the R2D2 Center mission and the mission of the funded projects towards improving the lives of people disabilities through measurement, assessment, and community engagement strategies. Furthermore, the position will contact, develop, and maintain relationships with community members in a specific stakeholder group including communities of people disabilities, leaders in communities such as governmental representatives, clergy, city manager staff, and proprietors of businesses (specifically restaurants), as well as facilitate data collection and app development and testing activities related to the R2D2 projects, particularly for the Access Ratings for Buildings app suite.

Minimum Qualifications

  • BA in political science or other related social science degree ideally with emphasis in mechanisms for community change.

  • Documented understanding of disability-related needs and interventions, particularly related to the broader impact of disability studies.

    Preferred Qualifications

  • 5 or more years of experience with nonprofit organizations and/or community action.

  • Advanced training and disability related activities and interventions to improve the lives of people with a range of disabilities.

  • Familiarity with concepts and integration of technology in the context of disability and experience with developing a wide range of software, including websites, apps, and familiarity across various software platforms.

  • Documented ability to work across broadly defined technical and human services interdisciplinary teams.

    Target Salary Range The minimum salary for this position is $19.23/hr. Note this position will be 50%-60% FTE. The final offer will be contingent upon the knowledge, skills, and abilities demonstrated throughout the selection process, as well as educational qualifications.
