Our patient populations include chronic disease management (CHF, COPD, ESRD, DM), sepsis, infectious workups, Hepatology and Gastrointestinal evaluations, Sickle Cell, CIWA/COWS, psych, evaluation for subacute rehab and skilled nursing facilities and much more. Nursing skills are Med/Surg focused: Foley insertions, trach cares/suctioning, gastric tubes (NG, NJ, PEGs), wound cares/vacs, IV/central line medications, PCA pumps, patient education, and promoting the highest function of activities of daily living. 4NE specializes in Cystic Fibrosis (CF). The Froedtert & MCW Adult Cystic Fibrosis Program is accredited by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. When patients are admitted with CF, 4NE Internal Medicine is the unit where they receive care. As the largest Internal Medicine Unit, team dynamics and trusting relationships are crucial to the success of our unit. No Weekends. 2 full patient care shifts every 3 weeks. Charge Nurse Hours: 1830-0700 Required Full Patient Care Staffing Shifts (2 shifts every 3 weeks): Patterned or Self-Scheduled option; Night Shift Staffing Hours: 1900-0730 PTO: Self-balancing PTO and flexed coverage with Charge Nurse group Night Shift Charge Nurse Patient Assignments: 0-3 patients pending census and staffing Job Summary: The Charge Nurse is a Registered Nurse with unit lead responsibilities for patient flow and adjustment of unit staffing to meet the dynamic needs of the patients. The Charge Nurse will use the nursing process to make ongoing evaluations of patients\' acuity, assessments of the staff nurses workload, and anticipate fluctuations in admissions, discharges and transfers. The facilitation of patient flow includes triaging and prioritizing admissions and overseeing the care coordination of patients being discharged/transferred. Daily nurse staffing includes employing effective decision-making behaviors that are used to safely balance changes in patient acuity and census with the availability, experience and competency of the staff nurses, to ensure safe and adequate staffing for all shifts.
