School/College/Division Description

The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee’s School of Continuing Education ( SCE ), located on the 6th and 7th floors of the John Plankinton Building at 161 W. Wisconsin Ave. in downtown Milwaukee, features a 25,000-square-foot facility with classrooms and meeting areas designed for professional education and training. Operating Monday through Saturday from 7:00 AM to 9:00 PM, the conference services team ensures that classrooms are clean, properly set up, and equipped with necessary instructional media. Utilizing the facility’s comprehensive technology, the SCE conference services team manages logistics, strategic placement, and administrative support for the school’s diverse range of over 1200 programs, serving 19,000 enrollments annually.

Expected Duration/Hours: Total hours per week can range from 4 - 20 based on your availability and scheduled events. All assigned shifts will be between the hours of 7:00 AM - 9:00 PM

Job Summary

The Conference Services office at the School of Continuing Education is seeking an outgoing, self-motivated, and hard-working individual with excellent customer service skills and strong multi-tasking abilities. We are looking for a pleasant and professional Front Desk Associate who will serve as the “face” of UWM School of Continuing Education for all visitors, responsible for creating a positive first impression.

We are seeking a reliable, outgoing individual with a willingness to learn, the ability to handle multiple tasks, who is able to work independently in a professional environment. Training will be provided. If you are dedicated, enjoy interacting with people, and have a knack for organizing and executing events, we encourage you to apply and join our dynamic team.

Responsibilities include:

  • Greet and assist visitors, ensuring a welcoming and professional environment while managing the front desk area, answering inquiries, and directing visitors appropriately.

  • Validate parking for guests.

  • Unlock and lock rooms, manage AV equipment, and turn lights on and off.

  • Ensure front-line security for the facility, securing the premises upon closing.

  • Perform on-site event set-up and clean-up, including basic custodial duties.

  • Assist with event planning, set-up, execution, and documentation to meet customer needs and expectations.

  • Coordinate with internal departments to facilitate seamless event operations.

  • Gather, enter, and maintain accurate event data and records.

  • Maintain a clean and organized reception area, ensuring all necessary supplies are stocked.

  • Handle administrative tasks such as scheduling, data entry, and communication with clients and staff.

  • Provide support to the conference services team in various capacities to ensure the smooth running of events and programs.

  • Assist with the creation of promotional materials and resources for events.

  • Perform other duties as assigned to ensure a well-maintained and smoothly running conference center.

    Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Degree or Equivalent

  • Two Years relevant professional experience providing administrative, customer service, and/or data entry services

  • Two Years’ experience specifically providing customer service or equivalent working with a variety of personalities

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel,) and Outlook and other current web-based software and technologies

  • Evidence of excellent communication skills, including telephone and email etiquette

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Vocational, college or university attendance and/or degree

  • Digital data entry (or equivalent) experience entering data into software and/or relational databases

  • Experience supervising or leading workers and/or activities of groups in a higher education environment

    Target Salary Range $15.00-$17.00/hour
