MKS Instruments Inc Senior Mechanical Engineer in Milpitas, California
Spectra-Physics, Ophir, Newport and ESI are brands within the MKS Instruments Photonics Solutions division. We provide a full range of solutions including lasers for precision industrial and scientific research applications, laser and LED measurement, beam profiling, precision motion control, optical tables and vibration isolation systems, photonics instruments, temperature sensing, opto-mechanical components, optical elements, and systems for flexible PCB laser processing, high-speed MLCC testing, and CO2-laser-based systems HDI PCB and IC substrate manufacturing. As a Mechanical Engineer, you will provide mechanical engineering expertise and support for the R&D of future, and existing, generations of ultra-fast, high-power industrial and scientific lasers. You Will Make an Impact By:
Design highly reliable products with cost, reliability, serviceability and manufacturability in mind
Ownership of all phases of the mechanical design of parts, assemblies, and products from conceptualization to obsolescence
Ownership of all phases of the mechanical design of tooling/fixturing for assembly and process development
Design and DFM verification using structural, thermal and flow analysis, tolerance studies, physical measurement and assembly, etc.
Provide mechanical engineering expertise to identify, diagnose and troubleshoot product-related issues and root cause analysis
Documentation: Drawings, BOMs, ECOs, etc.
Leading and participating in design reviews
Acquisition of parts and assemblies, and vendor management, from concept through NPI builds
Collaboration with various functional teams including project management, optical engineering, electrical and software engineering, NPI, sustaining engineering, manufacturing, service, document control, marketing, etc.
Participation in conducting performance tests, building assemblies, verifying tooling, building lasers, etc.
Adherence to MKS/SP standards, practices, safety policies and procedures.
Skills You Bring:
BSME required; MSME preferred
2+ years of design experience in an engineering R&D environment
Experience with high-precision assemblies; Opto-mechanical design and laser design experience preferred
Competent with using mechanical hardware and tools
Functional knowledge and practical application of GD&T
Functional knowledge and practical application of DFM principles
Proficient with Solidworks; CREO experience is a plus
Effective verbal and written communication skills
Experience with FEA tools for structural, thermal and flow analysis
We are interested in a qualified candidate who is eligible to work in the United States. However, we will not be sponsoring work visas for this position, at this time.
Compensation and Benefits: Salary Pay Range: $72,500 to 134,600 per year. This range is a good faith esti mate of the expected salary range for this position, based on a wide range of factors including qualifications, experience and training, operational and business needs and other considerations permitted by law. At MKS, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for the role.
Bonus: This position is eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, in an amount to be determined by MKS [or as applicable].
