The Dow Chemical Company Senior Research Specialist in Midland, Michigan
The Dow Chemical Company. Defines and conducts research on projects using advanced knowledge of chemistry principles, theory, and experimental design. Develops and implements technical solutions through hands-on experimentation/problem-solving for research problems that are well defined within a project area. Primary focus is on synthesis of new and complex molecules, with general understanding of reaction mechanisms and kinetics. Can use both routine and advanced chemical characterization methods to assess experimental outcome. Also has a working knowledge of data analytics to inform experimental design. Consistently applies the Scientific Method in the planning and execution of experimental plans and problem solving. Formulates hypotheses and develops experimental plans to test hypotheses. Keeps current with developments in relevant areas of synthetic chemistry, catalysis, and other related fields. Serves as a peer coach and provides constructive advice on projects within the team, and makes meaningful contributions to the project direction. Proposes project proposal alignment to business strategies and objectives, serving as a synthetic chemistry SME as needed. Modifies communication appropriately to both internal and external audiences. Demonstrates a working knowledge of team alignment with R&D and Business goals. PhD in Chemistry, Engineering, or related required. Telecommuting may be permitted. When not telecommuting, must report to worksite.
