Wesleyan University Research Scientist in Middletown, Connecticut

The Fisher Lab in the Wesleyan University MB&B Department is seeking a Research Scientist. The Research Scientist will conduct research to investigate the biochemical processes underpinning bacterial copper uptake and usage. The lab is highly collaborative, and strongly values and supports colleagues with diverse backgrounds and experiences. Responsibilities include:

  • Designing, executing, and trouble shooting experiments

  • Analyzing and interpreting data

  • Preparing project results for manuscripts.

  • Mentoring graduate and undergraduate students in the lab.

  • Assisting the PI in the design of related projects.

  • Other duties as assigned

The Research Scientist will also be welcome to participate in the Department’s ongoing intellectual life, including the weekly MB&B Journal Clubs and the seminar series.. The Research Scientist will have the opportunity to present research to, and interact with, this community, and the option to develop additional research collaborations if desired.

This is an on-campus position.

This position is approved for 1 year with the potential to extend a second year. Start date is flexible and can be as early as August 1st, 2024.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Structural Biology, or a related discipline or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.

Experience in protein expression and purification, X-ray crystallography, microbiology, and/or biochemistry.

Strong communication skills.

Demonstrated commitment to work within a diverse environment and interact collegially with individuals of different backgrounds

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience working with membrane proteins, metalloproteins, and/or enzymes.

Experience mentoring undergraduate students.

Compensation: Compensation: $61,008.00 - $74,088.00
