THE POSITION

The State of Connecticut (https://portal.ct.gov/) , Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services ( DMHAS (https://portal.ct.gov/DMHAS/About-DMHAS/Agency/About-DMHAS) ) is now hiring for a Physician (https://www.jobapscloud.com/CT/specs/classspecdisplay.asp?ClassNumber=4662VR&R1=&R3=) to join their team!

This is an on-call/on-site position that will provide coverage during weeknights and weekends to ensure continuous, high-quality care across Merritt Hall, Blue Hills Hospital, and General Psychiatry Division (Woodward Hall and Battell).

On the average, this candidate would work either:

  • One weekday per week from 4:30pm - 8:30am, or

  • One 24-hour weekend day or holiday from 8:30am - 8:30am

    DMHAS is a health care agency whose mission is to promote the overall health and wellness of persons with behavioral health needs through an integrated network of holistic, comprehensive, effective, and efficient services and supports that foster dignity, respect, and self-sufficiency in those we serve.

    CVH opened in 1868 as the State’s public hospital for the treatment of persons with mental illness. Today, CVH is the largest of DMHAS facilities, and includes 17 inpatient units over two campuses (Middletown and Hartford). The hospital includes both a general psychiatry and addiction services units. CVH provides comprehensive inpatient and outpatient psychiatric care and substance abuse treatment, including treatment for pregnant women and persons with dual diagnoses. Specialty areas include geriatric and special services, an integrated network of comprehensive mental health services for older adults and young adult services. The facility also runs the Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) program which addresses the needs of TBI survivors, including reintegration into community living, independent living skills development, vocational and educational training, psychiatric, cognitive and neurological assessment and treatment, speech and physical rehabilitation as well as individual and family counseling.

    PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

    In a state agency this class is accountable for providing part-time medical treatment services to patients.

    EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

  • Provides 24-hour medical supervision to specified groups of patients and facility coverage as scheduled, including on-call and weekend coverage;

  • Examines, diagnoses and medically treats patients;

  • Develops and monitors integrated treatment plans;

  • Interviews, examines and admits patients to treatment;

  • Performs physical examinations;

  • Orders, analyzes and interprets medical and laboratory tests;

  • Prescribes appropriate medications and treatments;

  • Coordinates treatment with other therapeutic programs;

  • Provides medical expertise and consultation to treatment teams;

  • Orders and monitors special treatment procedures;

  • Performs discharge planning;

  • Participates in staff meetings;

  • Maintains accurate, up-to-date medical records and prepares required reports according to hospital policy and/or JCAHO and HCFA standards;

  • Performs related duties as required.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE

    Completion of one (1) year of a residency program.

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Incumbents must possess and maintain eligibility for participation in federal health care programs as defined in 42 U.S. 1320a-7b(f).

  • Incumbents in this class may be required to possess and retain a license to practice medicine and surgery in Connecticut. A temporary license may be granted for a period not to exceed one (1) year.

  • Incumbents in this class may be required to demonstrate continued competency and proficiency in the practice of medicine by successfully completing an established agency program.

  • Incumbents in this class may be required to be board-certified in internal medicine, family medicine or neurology.

  • Incumbents in this class may be required to be bilingual.
