The University of Miami/UHealth Department of SCCC has an exciting opportunity for a Full Time Scientific Writer to work at the UHealth Medical Campus.

The Scientific Writer 2 (G rant writing and manuscript preparation) analyzes, simplifies, writes, and designs well-organized, high-quality, error-free content in both hard-copy and online formats for the University and assigned department(s) to best meet the needs of both internal and external audiences. The role requires a strong background in grant writing and scientific manuscript development.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Creates, implements, and maintains competitive application templates for grant proposals, particularly NIH grants .

  • Formats substantive copy and provides scientific editing, proofreading, and finalizing documents as required and requested.

  • Ensures readability, clarity, consistency, and compliance with applicable submission requirements.

  • Reviews document language for scientific and medical accuracy; suggests alternative language as needed, consulting with principal investigators or leaders.

  • Communicates with principal investigators and senior leadership authors to ensure accuracy and clarity of documents; meets internal and sponsor submission deadlines.

  • Researches, composes, and edits clinical and statistical reports, study protocols, and manuscripts.

  • Summarizes data from clinical studies for submission to governmental and regulatory agencies.

  • Edits all extramurally funded proposals for grammar, readability, clarity, and compliance with requirements.

  • Collaborates with presenters on scientific presentations to ensure accuracy and adherence to time constraints.

  • Ensures documents adhere to regulations, guidelines, and policies; advises on corrections as needed.

  • Manages documentation for copyright transfers, conflict of interest statements, and other publisher-specific requirements.

  • Tracks publication progress and responds to queries as necessary.

  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and safeguards University assets.

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field required

Experience:

  • Minimum 4 years of experience in scientific writing, with a focus on NIH grant writing and manuscript preparation.

  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.

  • Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with professional composure.

  • Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships.

  • Ability to understand and follow instructions.
