The Department of Public Health Sciences is currently seeking a full time Manager, Research Support to work in Miami. The Manager, Research Support provides program support to facilitate research. Furthermore, the Manager, Research Support oversees research operations to ensure efficiency and compliance with applicable regulations.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Contributes to basic and applied research activities by collecting and analyzing data and maintaining databases.

  • Understands and interprets research protocols and procedures and ensures all research is undertaken according to best practices.

  • Provides guidance, mentorship, and oversight to junior research staff and students.

  • Conducts meetings with research and other staff, outside agencies, and other applicable organizations and ensures functions are coordinated in a timely and accurate manner.

  • Provides technical and program support and resolves operational problems.

  • Assists in the preparation and publication of manuscripts and other program-related documents and reports.

  • Stays abreast of developments in the field which may impact department functions.

  • Advances expertise through continued education, training, and research.

  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Department Specific Functions

The Manager, Research Support Programs will oversee and coordinate the day-to-day operations of the research projects occurring in the Caban-Martinez Lab in accordance with the institution’s academic and strategic missions. The incumbent operates with the goal of delivering high quality research support programs to the Lab’s affiliated faculty, staff, trainees and other key stakeholders. Furthermore, the Manager of Research Support Programs provides guidance and mentorship to Lab staff to encourage operational efficacy across all research projects.

  • Plans, implements, evaluates, and monitors lab-wide development of research programs.

  • Implements research project plans related to the delivery of new and on-going research programs.

  • Works with internal stakeholders so that the research projects runs efficient and effectively.

  • Evaluates and measures the effectiveness of assigned research projects and overall research program.

  • Ensures that research operations are managed within authorized budgets.

  • Collects, manages, and reports research program data.

  • Develops and cultivates relationships and partnerships with various external entities and organizations to further research program functions and research project functions.

  • Recruits, supervises, evaluates, and disciplines lab staff and trainees to ensure optimum performance.

  • Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the lab and compliance with Federal and State research grants, as well as University policies and procedures.

  • Ensures lab staff and trainees are trained on controls within the lab’s research program and on University policy and procedures.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field

  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience

    Any relevant education, certifications and/or work experience may be considered.

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

  • Knowledge of business and management principles.

  • Ability to direct, manage, implement, and evaluate department operations.

  • Ability to establish department goals and objectives that support the strategic plan.

  • Ability to effectively plan, delegate and/or supervise the work of others.

  • Ability to lead, motivate, develop, and train others.
