Jewish Community Center Lifeguard, Part-Time in Miami, Florida

Principal Responsibilities: SUMMARY:The Lifeguard Monitors activities in swimming area to prevent accidents and provide assistance to swimmers by performing the following duties. Job Duties will include but may not be limited to: * Responsible for the safety of users, enforcement of SAFE pool practices; always ready to act in the event of an incident or emergency. * Wear uniform: Bathing suit, red shorts, provided lifeguard shirt, a whistle, sunglasses, and rescue fanny pack. * Lifeguards must be "rescue ready" while on the stand or in position. * Caution swimmers regarding unsafe areas, or unsafe behaviors and activities. * Maintain order throughout the entire aquatic facility. * Maintain a clean facility. * Monitoring and testing pool chemistry. * Aid in facility maintenance including but not limited to: pumps and pump area, filtration system, heaters, chiller, and chemical storage area. * Keep all ARC and other certifications up to date. * Communicate well with staff, aquatic patrons, and all JCC members. * Follow all safety and emergency procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook. * Evaluate all new swimmers and implement swim test. * Other duties as assigned. * Evening and weekend hours as necessary. KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS * Ability to recognize problems and resolve on the spot. * Work in a fast-paced, stressful environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and a varied and diverse array of contacts. * Ability to multi-task and prioritize work. * Ability to work independently and in a team environment. * Ability to set goals, create plans, and convert plans into action. * Exhibited leadership skills. * Strong organizational and time management skills. * Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. * Additional language skill is preferred. ENGLISH LANGUAGE Strong knowledge of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write short routine correspondence.Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and email group situations, and to other employees of the organization. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Basic mathematical skills required. REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished written, oral, or diagram form.Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. CUSTOMER SERVICE and INTERPERSONAL SKILLS Ability to manage difficult or emotional members, responds promptly to customer needs.Responds to requests for assistance and service. Meets commitments.
