The incumbent is responsible for creating and implementing the strategic direction and business plan for the Patient and Community Educators (PaCE). This includes the following: increasing awareness of PaCE role, responsibilities, and capabilities across the TA marketplace; and creation of TA Clinical Educator programming to support the unmet educational needs of HCPs, patients, and advocacy partners within BIPI guidelines, policies, and directives. The incumbent has an in-depth working knowledge of marketplace educational and therapeutic needs. This individual is familiar with TA specific professional medical organizations, HCP marketplace accounts, public and private payers, as well as advocacy affiliates across the US. The position will maximize the use of key company resources and budgets to support the educational needs of patients, TA clinical professional, patient advocacy market segment and effort to exceed Business Unit (BU) overarching educational goals. The incumbent will also ensure equal and consistent application of established policies and procedures in the management of employees to meet or exceed approved performance goals.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Recruits, leads, and develops a staff of Patient and Community Clinical Educators and Senior Associate Directors. The team will educate patients and advocacy partners.

  • Manages the PaCE teams to a high level of productivity.

  • Identifies and develops top PaCE and Senior Associate Director talent. Defines clear objectives, allocates resources, provides development opportunities, and conducts ongoing performance reviews.

  • Works with other members of the Therapeutic Area leadership team to build and establish a patient focused, customer centric culture where everyone is empowered to contribute and open dialogue results in optimal planning, execution, and performance.

  • Supports internal stakeholders to meet or exceed annual educational and business objectives. Collaborates closely with Executive Director, PaCE, Thereapeutic Area Leadership Team Marketing, Director of Field Reimbursement, Director of Patient Advocacy, Trade Operations, Analytics/Insights and other cross-functional stakeholders to coordinate national resources to maximize marketplace disease state and product education and support goals of the BU.

  • Evaluates opportunities to expand the education on our brands beyond nursing to Advanced Practice Providers, etc.

  • Provides feedback to senior leadership on the effectiveness and results of policies, strategies, and procedures within the nursing sector.

  • Partner with TA leadership to identify, develop and recommend opportunities to differentiate and build competitive advantage.

  • Executes a process for implementation and quarterly measurement of the TA PaCE plan across the nation.

  • Manages fiscal resources to within assigned budgets.

  • Develops the strategy for marketing engagement, educational resources and franchise initiatives that will optimally position Boehringer TA brand(s) with the BU's nursing and allied HCP market segment.

  • Contributes to the development of the TA national marketing and long-term strategic plans. Utilizes appropriate data sources to develop PaCE strategic plan. In conjunction with TA leadership contributes to the development of the business plans to ensure alignment with the TA strategic PaCE plan.

  • Attends leadership and marketing meetings to recommend TA PaCE needs and product strategies to ensure that the Patient and Community Clinical Educators have the tools needed to achieve BU educational goals.

  • Monitors nursing environment and has in-depth understanding of the processes and mechanisms for treatment pathways and guidelines through local, regional, and national development committees. Understands the process and coordinates resources to appropriately review guidelines and care pathways that impact Boehringer brands.

  • Spends appropriate amount of time cultivating and maintaining relationships with product customers, networks and stakeholders to understand customer needs. Actively anticipate shifts in market conditions including core key nursing societies, management organizations and large IDN's. Responds to the needs of the customer in a timely and professional manner.

  • Provide clear strategic direction and leadership into PaCE related communications and patient advocacy team.

  • Represent PaCE focused business and patient education perspective across multiple functions, including communications, GAAP, and PAR and clearly communicate approved PaCE capabilities, educational objectives, and priorities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required; MBA preferred.

  • Major focus: Healthcare, Clinical Nursing, Advance Practice Provider or related medical discipline.

  • Active clinical license required.

  • 10+ years of successful pharmaceutical experience required, including 4-6 years leading a clinical educator team, including first-line leaders, in the TA or similar specialty care experience.

  • Strategic and Analytical skills, Communication skills, Business acumen, Learning and Adaptability, Leadership Skills (both leading their team and playing a key leadership role in TA leadership team), Influencing skills (working across internal stakeholders in Ridgefield, as well as external stakeholders in the BU provider community).

  • Deep understanding of BU patient management processes and the interrelationships between the HCPs involved, as well as legal, compliance and pharmacovigilance processes and reporting.

  • Experience in building, recruiting, developing and performance managing a Patient and Community Clinical Educator field force and all its implications (IC, Regional and territory design, targeting methodology, etc.) is highly valued.

  • Broad functional experiences in the US BU market (particularly TA & BU Management, Marketing, Account Management and/or Managed Markets, Distribution/Specialty Pharmacy).

  • Strategic capability to develop and oversee the implementation of diverse regional business plans necessary to achieve success across the complex and rapidly evolving BU market. Demonstrated experience interpreting clinical and pharmacoeconomic data.

  • Ability to travel in the US including overnight travel, approximately 50% (or more), depending on geography.

  • Valid Driver’s License and acceptable driving record

  • Proficiency in Excel, Word, Outlook, and other relevant applications

  • Success operating within a matrix environment

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction.

  • Must be willing to take a drug test and post-offer physical (if required).

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.

Compensation Data

This position offers a base salary typically between $167,000 and $289,000.  The position may be eligible for a role specific variable or performance based bonus and or other compensation elements.
