Shift: Full -Time - 40+ hours/week WEEKDAYS, EVENINGS, WEEKENDS and NIGHTS and on-call support

Work Location: University of Miami Hospital - Imaging Services UTower

1.Coordinate/manage scheduling and patient flow for interdepartmental procedures.

  1. Supervises as well as performs diagnostic imaging studies under the direction/supervision of a radiologist.

  2. Assist radiologists and PhD's in developing new protocols and CT imaging techniques that are unique to facility.

  3. Participate in research initiatives and development of research protocols.

  4. Monitor charging of CT procedures and supplies daily to ensure correctness.

  5. Demonstrate CT equipment for 'site visits' for visiting physicians and administrators.

  6. Provide in-service classes in section. 8. Schedule patients for procedures; assist with clerical functions.

  7. Provide assistance with orientation and training of new CT technologists.

  8. Obtains and examines the order for a CT scan to be aware of information such as procedures requested, patient’s condition and any other special notes or comments.

  9. Ensures that orders are appropriate to the type of exam recommended by physician. Notifies supervisor of any discrepancies and/or contacts physician’s office for correct orders if necessary.

  10. Identifies patient service requirements by establishing personal rapport with potential and actual patients and other persons in a position to understand service requirements.

  11. Verify the patient’s ID by checking their name and date of birth on electronic medical record and patient’s wristband.

  12. Always obtain necessary consents and education.

    1. Perform complex specialized tasks associated with the operation of CT scanners and related equipment in accordance with prescribed safety procedures under the direction/supervision of a Radiologist using age-appropriate standards of practice.

    2. Ability to integrate diagnostic, laboratory results, patient history and medical records and adapt exam as necessary. Adheres to CT protocols to maintain high quality standards.

    3. Consistently demonstrates complete competence in performing CT scans as ordered.

    4. As required during a procedure, assists positioning patients in required anatomical position for display of body for CT scans using immobilization and protective equipment as necessary.

    5. Maintain proper aseptic technique utilizing universal precaution guidelines (hand washing, gloves, gown, mask, eye protection and equipment disinfection).

    6. Assist radiologist with imaging procedures, starting IV's, and injecting contrast, if applicable.

    7. Assist radiologist with interventional CT procedures.

    8. Evaluate CT scans for technical quality, collate processed images in sequence of exposure and appropriately label. Film/transmit to PACS.

    9. Charge procedures and supplies in UChart/Radiant.

    10. Dispenses oral contrast to patients for CT scans.

    11. Loads and operates power injectors for contrast media administration.

    12. Maintain accurate patient records.

    13. Gains patient cooperation by reducing anxieties; providing explanations of treatment; answering questions.

    14. Applies physical age-specific and/or developmental care needs of patients according to their documented physical/development requirement by competency validation checklist:

a. Children

b. Adolescents

c. Adults

d. Geriatric

e. Challenge / Disabled

  1. Performs basic nursing functions in the patient’s care i.e., assists with bedpans, emesis basins, etc. Assumes care for physical and psychological needs of the patient during

    scanning procedures; initiates life support measures for patients if necessary; assists in “Code Blue” procedure during medical emergencies.

    Performs CPR as needed.

    1. Keeps work area in a clean and sanitary condition and stocks exam/dressing rooms with required supplies.

    2. Provides on call coverage.

    3. Reports unusual findings in a timely manner to appropriate Radiologist/Supervisory personnel.

    4. Provides education and training to student technologists.

    5. Abide by hospital/department HR policies.

    6. Adheres to any regulatory body guidelines governing modality including but not limited to: Joint Commission, AHCA, ACR, FL DOH and FDA/MQSA.

    CORE QUALIFICATIONS

    Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Graduate of accredited Radiologic Technology /Diagnostic Imaging Program.

C ertification and Licensing:

CPR and BLS certification required. ARRT registered with ARRT certification in primary modality required. State of Florida License as a General Radiographer preferred.

Experience:

One (1) year of relevant experience required. Supervisory experience preferred.
