Assistant Professor, Research

Division of Health Services Research and Policy

The Division of Health Services Research and Policy in the Department of Public Health Sciences is seeking an exceptional candidate for a non-tenure research track assistant professor position.

Our mission in the Division of Health Services Research and Policy is to conduct innovative health services, health economics, and health policy research across a broad range of areas including: health systems financing, economic impact, decision making, organizational structures and processes, population health, chronic disease, behavioral health, clinical intervention development and implementation, global health and ethics, and provider and patient personal behaviors that affect access, quality, and cost of health care. Participation in DPHS and MSOM research programs further enhances the efforts of division faculty, staff, and students to fulfill UM’s academic mission in education, research, and service.

The selected individual will be a faculty member in the Division of Health Services Research and Policy and will be engaged in both methodological and collaborative research with existing faculty, have a commitment to team science, and possess effective oral and written communication skills. The selected individual will also be expected to 1) teach within the University of Miami’s MPH and PhD Graduate Programs in Public Health and/or Biostatistics and 2) advise MPH and PhD students academicall y .

Candidates must pos sess a doctorate in health economics, health services research, health policy, or a related field. They should be emerging scholars with evidence of a growing body of outstanding scholarship and a strong commitment to teaching. Candidate is also expected to develop and obtain an externally funded, independent research.

Candidates should have the ability to:

  1. Conduct innovative scholarly research in a dynamic, multidisciplinary, collaborative environment.

  2. Obtain peer-reviewed funding to support research program.

  3. Be open to collaboration with other departments, divisions, centers, and institutes within the Miller School of Medicine and across the University of Miami.

  4. Teach and mentor students in the Master of Public Health program, the MD/MPH program, and other joint degree programs in the DPHS.

  5. Contribute to the development of graduate joint degree programs featuring combinations of public health, law, business, and health administration.

  6. Publish research findings in high impact journals, book chapters, books, policy briefs, and op-ed pieces.

  7. Serve on DPHS committees (e.g., Admissions Committee, Curriculum Committee).


    · Doctoral degree (MD or PhD) in health services research, economics, health policy, or related area.

    · An extramurally funded program of research and solid track record of high impact publications.

    · Effective oral and written communications including teaching experience and presentations at scientific meetings.

    · Teaching experience.

    · Experience mentoring graduate students through independent projects, participation in master’s thesis and dissertation committees.
