Silversea Cruises Assistant Expedition Leader in Miami, Florida

Assistant Expedition Leader (AEL) assists the Expedition Leader in managing a unified and motivated Expedition team whilst encouraging individual creativity and personal achievement.

AEL also provides the Expedition Leader crucial support in communication by effectively relaying information to staff regarding daily programs, activities and excursions, management of all Zodiac excursions and landings and the management of the timing of each day’s activities.

Responsibilities:Daily and Per Voyage Operations (to include but not limited to):

  • a) Provides crucial support to the Expedition Leader in the creation and dissemination to staff of daily programs, activities and excursions.

  • b. Assists the Expedition Leader with management of all Zodiac excursions and landings.

  • c. Assists with the management of the timing of each day’s activities.

  • d. Accompanies passengers on tours and guide field trips.

  • e. Familiarization with, and assisting the Expedition Leader with adherence to any internal or external site specific regulations/permits/guidelines.

  • f. Scouts all landing sites together with the Expedition Leader and assists in establishing and operating a suitable landing spot.

  • g. Keeps lecture staff informed of wild life sightings.

  • h. Ensures that all operational and emergency equipment needed for landings is brought ashore.

  • i. Maintains the Zodiac log book, documenting any incidents or maintenance required.

  • j. Drives Zodiacs as needed.

  • k. Assists the Expedition Leader with the ongoing staff Zodiac driving skills evaluation and Zodiac trainings.

  • l. Supports Zodiac operations including embarkation and disembarkation of guests.

  • m. Responsible to arrive prepared for and knowledgeable of each itinerary and its specific destinations.

  • n. Creating and disseminating informative destination briefings to assist the Expedition Leader.

  • o. Advising guests of the company policy and behavior expected ashore during landings.

  • p. In the Arctic and Antarctic briefing guests on the IAATO an AECO policies and codes.

  • q. Actively works alongside the Expedition Leader to maintain good morale and team spirit aboard.

Requirements

  1. Valid STCW95 certification.

  2. Solid expedition and entertainment background.

  3. Excellent administrative skills.

  4. Small boat driving license.

  5. An understanding of sea charts, weather patterns and local conditions of area of operation.

  6. For operating in the Arctic and Antarctic regions, a good working knowledge of AECO and IAATO regulations and environmental policies.

  7. Physically and medically fit.

  8. Moral integrity is required.

  9. Fluent English (verbal and written).
