**[DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES [The duties described below are indicative of what the Animal Control Officer might be asked to perform. Other duties may be assigned. This job description is to incorporate any municipal ordinances created for the position of Animal Control Officer.

Patrols city area for unlicensed pets, animals at large and other violations of City Animal ordinances.
Patrols school areas to ensure safe walking for children.
Provides staffing for animal shelter and performs all functions of Animal Shelter Attendant.
Works closely with health and law enforcement agencies in animal cases.
Assists the Veterinarian as needed in medication delivery, care of the animal, and following veterinarian orders.
Issues warning or summons to owners of pets in violation of ordinances.
Responds to telephone and radio calls.
Investigates and resolves public inquiries and complaints.
Impounds unlicensed, stray and other animals in clear violation of City Animal ordinances.
Investigates animal bite cases establishing: victim, cause of injury, owner of suspected animal, etc.
Quarantines and observes potential rabid animals and other high risk animals.
Prepares rabies specimens for transport to state rabies laboratory.
Maintains close contact with rabies victim, owner of rabid anima and state authorities.
Assist with cage cleaning and sanitizing of community and isolation areas of shelter.
