Lead Soldering Engineer

Lead Soldering Engineer

About Advanced Energy

Advanced Energy Industries, Inc. (NASDAQ: AEIS), enables design breakthroughs and drives growth for leading semiconductors and industrial customers. Our precision power and control technologies, along with our applications know-how, inspire close partnerships and innovation in thin-film and industrial manufacturing. We are proud of our rich heritage, award-winning technologies, and we value the talents and contributions of all Advanced Energy's employees worldwide.

Reporting to the Manufacturing Engineering head, this post leads a team of engineers and technicians to oversee all activities relating to soldering process and machines including but not limited to the design, setup, qualify, implement and control of soldering process starting from new products to end of life products targeting zero soldering defects. Other tasks like equipment maintenance and improvement, new processes and machines and technology identification and implementation, equipment and process standardization and consolidation are also critical areas he/she needs to take care of.

This soldering engineer should understand the principles behind and has hands on experience on all kinds of soldering processes, in particular but not limited to wave, reflow, selective nozzle, induction, hand and robotic soldering processes and machines, PCB design and DFM related to soldering, soldering materials like solder, flux and solder paste, rework and IPC-7711/7721, and workmanship and acceptance standards like IPC-A-610.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a soldering team – consists of engineers and technicians for activities regarding all wave soldering processes and machines in factories.

  • Early involvement in NPI to ensure new products having high manufacturability – to bring up new products with design compatible with existing soldering capabilities or identify new process & equipment that can handle challenging and new design requirement, with particular focus on DFM, PFMEA, and Process Qualification, and meeting the new product’s quality and cost requirements.

  • Design and setup soldering process, including rework processes, fixtures and tools – to target at zero soldering defect. Embed quality, repeatability, and poka yoke into process design. Define process windows based on DoE and qualify the process before releasing for production use.

  • Resolve soldering issues – tackle soldering defects based on actual data and structured problem-solving methods to provide immediate actions to keep the line running, and long-term action to prevent reoccurrence. Proactively monitor downstream processes to ensure no soldering related issue. If there is any, then take immediate corrective action with preventive actions in place.

  • Process control – develop and maintain robust process control to ensure a consistent and zero-defect soldering process.

  • Soldering equipment, fixtures and tools’ maintenance - to ensure they are always in good condition, manage spare parts, and own the DT, MTBF, MTTR, MTTA, MTTV and OEE metrics of all soldering equipment.

  • Work closely with Process Engineering and Automation team - to enhance soldering process efficiency and process quality.

  • Standardize soldering practices – ensure the same process practices are used across all soldering machines to facilitate process design, setup, maintenance, and problem solving.

  • Continuous improvement – strive for continuous improvement of efficiency, quality, cost and utilization of soldering equipment, process, and labor. Explore new machines, and soldering materials and improve soldering and related processes to improve the company’s soldering capability to cope with new design challenges or resolve soldering problems and keep improving new and existing products’ competitive edge.

  • Consolidation of lessons learned & best practices – develop, update, and maintain a knowledge base or procedures for lessons learned and best practice for process standardization and training.

Qualifications

  1. Graduate of Mechanical/Production/Industrial Engineering

  2. Experience in Industrial Electronics Manufacturing (CM and EOM), manage process design, setup, maintenance and improvement of soldering machines.

  3. +7 years’ experience on similar Position / Process.
