Amazon Processing Lead Technician – Propellant Loading, Project Kuiper in Merritt Island, Florida
Description
Project Kuiper is an initiative to increase global broadband access through a constellation of 3,236 satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO). Its mission is to bring fast, affordable broadband to unserved and underserved communities around the world. Project Kuiper will help close the digital divide by delivering fast, affordable broadband to a wide range of customers, including consumers, businesses, government agencies, and other organizations operating in places without reliable connectivity.
The processing lead technician will work as a part of a team of technicians through satellite propellant loading operations. The propellant loading system utilizes cryogenic liquid Nitrogen and high-pressure gaseous Argon and Krypton. The processing lead will work closely with engineering and other launch operations and satellite manufacturing teams to support final checkout, assembly, and integration activities at the Project Kuiper Payload Processing Facilities (PPFs).
The technician performs satellite load and system test per propulsion test requirements, follows and provides feedback for operational procedures, implements process controls, and supports continuous improvement. This individual will work closely with engineering and other launch operations and satellite manufacturing teams.
The ideal candidate is comfortable in a highly technical and collaborative setting and is able to follow and improve technical work instructions.
Export Control Requirement:
Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum
Key job responsibilities
Adhere to safety requirements, standards and procedures in all work locations
Final assembly and test of the Kuiper satellites using various ground system in a clean-room and Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) controlled environment
Load Krypton propellant into Kuiper satellites using computer controlled equipment (high pressure gases and cryogenic liquid in use)
Independently execute assigned work to meet production schedules
Use precision calibrated tools – torque wrenches, multi-meters, micrometers and calipers
Perform work according to engineering drawings and technical work instructions
Check and inspect work after completion to ensure engineering and quality standards are met per the drawing and
work instruction requirements
Collaborate with engineers to develop and document activities, including continuous improvement opportunities
Perform other duties, as assigned, to ensure an efficient, safe and effective work environment
Able to obtain and maintain licenses, and/or certifications as required by job responsibilities (i.e. forklift, crane)
Mentor new and junior team members
Willing to work overtime and weekends as required
Shift schedule is nominally 5 days/week, 8 hours/day; may vary depending on production/launch schedules
Must be willing and able to perform extended travel up to 25% annually, either domestically or internationally, as business needs demand
A day in the life
The processing lead technician will meet with their engineer and/or leader to plan objectives for the day and assign tasks to their team of technicians. They will then go onto the operations floor to process satellites according to work instructions provided by engineering using propellant loading ground support equipment. They will document completed work and report non-conformances to engineering as they occur. Periodically, they will perform maintenance on the ground and facility systems supporting propellant loading. They will be expected to cross train with all other launch operations work areas to support work surges and travel to other launch sites.

Basic Qualifications
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience
4+ years of experience in spaceflight hardware testing and assembly
Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment
Able to obtain and maintain a US Passport & must meet customs entry requirements to include but not limited to: Yellow Fever vaccine and other immunization requirements as recommended by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
Ability to pass Kennedy Space Center background checks
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in a fast-paced processing environment
Experience working with Foreign Object Debris (FOD), ESD sensitive hardware, and in a clean room
Experience with forklifts, cranes, rigging, and heavy equipment (including previous certifications)
A demonstrated ability in reading/understanding technical drawings, work instructions and standard operating procedures
Additional Requirements:
Able to stand/walk for long periods of time
Able to climb ladders, work in tight spaces, bending, grasping, sitting, pulling, pushing, stooping, and stretching may be required to perform the functions of this position
Able to lift at least 25 lbs. unassisted
