Job Responsibilities: Reporting to the food service manager, the Assistant Food Service Manager directly supervises production and line supervisors, correctional officer staff, and offenders assigned to the dining room. This role is responsible for managing food services, including the offender dining hall and special food services, in compliance with Management & Training Corporation (MTC) and Mississippi Department of Corrections (MDOC) directives.
Essential Functions:
- Maintain kitchen equipment in an orderly and workable condition, ensuring a safe, clean, and sanitary work area.
- Perform accurate counts and control of all kitchen tools at the beginning and end of each shift.
- Supervise offenders in the preparation of required meals.
- Manage cleaning tasks, including mopping, scrubbing, refinishing kitchen floors, and sanitizing restrooms.
- Ensure accurate counts for all offenders assigned to the kitchen.
- Promote positive social skills through modeling appropriate behaviors and intervening when necessary; provide regular feedback to staff on social skills procedures and intervention techniques.
- Maintain accountability of offenders and property, adhering to safety practices.
- Perform other duties as assigned within capabilities determined by management.
Education/Experience Requirements:
- Graduation from an accredited senior high school or equivalent (GED).
- One (1) year full-time, wage-earning experience in correctional, commercial, or institutional food preparation, or food service management experience, or eighteen (18) months of correctional custody law enforcement experience.
- Valid driver's license in the state of Mississippi with an acceptable driving record, unless waived by management.
Post-Hire Requirements:
- Successfully complete annual in-service training requirements.
- Pass an annual background check.
