Facebook Optical Engineer in Menlo Park, California

The Network Hardware Engineering team is looking for an Optical Engineer to develop and validate optical communication products for Facebook’s cutting-edge data centers. As an Optical Engineer, you will have a unique opportunity to influence the optical communication industry and shape the future networks of Facebook.

Required Skills:

  1. Collaborate with FB engineers on the next generation optical communication technology with a particular focus the testing of optical modules and subsystems for Data Center applications.

  2. Work in a collaborative environment across Facebook teams including SW, Thermal, Mechanical, and EE.

  3. Develop test and simulation methodologies relevant for next-generation, high-speed optical technologies.

  4. Develop automation practices and solutions for lab testing.

  5. Streamline data collection, retrieval and analysis.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree in Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, Sciences and Engineering, and/or related field.

  2. Experience (2+ years) in the development and validation of optical communication components such as lasers, transmitters, receivers, and transceivers.

  3. Experience (2+ years) in high-speed optical and electrical test and measurement equipment, control, data acquisition and test automation.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Experience with direct-detect modulation formats (e.g., RZ, NRZ & PAMx).

  2. Programming skills in one or more of the following: Python, C/C++, or MATLAB.

  3. Experience with network switch hardware.
