Job Summary:

Akima Infrastructure Services, LLC (AIS), is actively seeking a meticulous and detail-oriented Laboratory Equipment Inventory Technician to join our team in Menlo Park, CA. This individual will contribute to national security within the Science & Technical fields as part of our staff augmentation team supporting the Department of Energy at SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. AIS has an established history of contributing to the success of our customer’s mission.

Successful candidates will be employees of AIS, a premier government contractor charged with employing highly motivated and well-qualified personnel who can advance the missions of the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory located in Menlo Park, CA. Though employed by AIS, the employee will take day-to-day direction from technical personnel employed directly by the research laboratory. Pay, Benefits, Human Resource, and Employment Management functions are provided by AIS.

Qualified applicants must be a US citizen, at least 18 years of age, and able to meet pre-employment requirements including any required physicals, drug screen, and/or background investigation to satisfy clearance requirements from the Department of Energy.

Job duration is projected to be a 3-month to 6-month period of performance requiring full time on-site work with occasional evenings or weekend work schedule to accommodate laboratory schedules as determined by SLAC.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for conducting comprehensive inventories of laboratory tools and equipment, applying asset tags for tracking purposes, and documenting water connections for each item. Responsibilities

Job Responsibilities:

  • Conducts thorough inventories of laboratory tools, equipment, and supplies across multiple laboratory settings

  • Applies unique asset tags to each item in accordance with established asset management protocols

  • Documents the make, model, and serial numbers of equipment and tools

  • Records and maintains accurate inventory records using (creating) electronic inventory management systems

  • Identifies and documents water connections for laboratory equipment and tools, including plumbing configurations and water sources

  • Collaborates with laboratory staff to verify equipment functionality and resolves discrepancies in inventory records

  • Assists in the organization and optimization of laboratory spaces to facilitate efficient equipment management

  • Coordinates with procurement and facilities management teams to ensure timely equipment repairs, maintenance, and replacements

  • Adheres to safety protocols and guidelines while working in laboratory environments

  • Provides regular reports and updates on inventory status and equipment-related issues to relevant stakeholders

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., Biology, Chemistry, Engineering) or equivalent practical experience

  • Proficiency in using inventory management software and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively

  • Pre-employment Drug Screen - External applicants selected for this position are required to successfully complete a post-offer, pre-employment drug test

  • Willingness and ability to work occasional evenings or weekends to accommodate laboratory schedules

  • Valid driver's license

Desired Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in laboratory settings, equipment management, or inventory control is preferred

  • Familiarity with laboratory safety protocols and procedures is desirable

Pay and Benefits:

  • Pay Range: $34.00 - $42.00 hourly – The salary offered to the successful candidate will be determined based on the candidate’s qualifications, work experience, and their ability to meet the known requirements of the position as determined at the time of hire.

  • Paid Leave: Paid Time Off (PTO) is offered to regular full-time and part-time employees.
