Position Overview:
SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory seeks an Installation Technician for the Hardware Engineering Department in the Accelerator Directorate¿s Electronics Engineering Division (EED). The successful candidate will provide cable installation support to the LCLS-II-HE project. The position will report to EED-HW Department Head.
Given the nature of this position, SLAC will require onsite work.
Your specific responsibilities include:
Perform installation, termination, and certification of electrical cables, harnesses, support system and interface devices.
Cable installation and fabrication:
Fabricate multi-conductor cable assemblies, coaxial cable, and wiring harnesses.
Route, place and tie down cables on cable trays and feed-through.
Terminate and connect cables to distribution frames, chassis, and experimental apparatus.
Installation of Cat 3, 5 & 6 and termination & testing.
Cable routing systems installation:
Install and fabricate cable tray, wire way assemblies.
Install rigid and flexible conduit to racks, electrical boxes and equipment enclosures.
Bond and ground tray systems, racks and equipment enclosures.
Electrical equipment and interface device installation:
Fabricate, modify, and install standard electrical chassis such as fuse panels, indicator panels, cross-connect blocks and power distribution.
Fabricate rack assemblies.
Install wiring and electronic sub-assemblies and equipment.
Wire AC power in electronic racks.
Works closely with customers to:
Check installed cables for electrical continuity, proper termination and excessive damage.
Verify, update, and record cable numbers, routing, origination, and termination points, and connecting device designations.
Collect and collate parts, material, tools, and equipment for installation and assembly.
Ensure all safety rules and followed.
Other duties may also be assigned
Note: This is a 24-month fixed term position.
To be successful in this position you will bring:
High School Diploma or equivalent and some experience in electrical control systems or a combination of relevant education and experience.
Ability to use simple electrical test equipment, such as volt/ohm meters, oscilloscopes, high-pot or leakage testers.
Working experience with common hand tools such as soldering iron, connector crimping tools.
Must be able to operate Power Industrial Vehicles (PIVs) such as lifts, forklift or other and be able to maintain necessary training and/or certification
Ability to read instructions from installation request forms, wiring diagrams and simple schematics.
Knowledge of basic AC and DC circuit theory, including the understanding and use of Ohm's law and the meaning of various electrical quantities.
Knowledge of basic electronic components and their nomenclature.
Must be able to interface with all levels of scientific and/or engineering staff and have good customer service skills.
Demonstrated communication skills (both verbal and written)
Computer literacy- Basic computer skills and demonstrated experience with office software and email applications
Ability to understand and follow environmental safety and health rules, procedures and regulations such as National Electric Code (NEC) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
Certifications and Licenses: Must have CA driver¿s license.

Physical requirements and Working conditions:
Ability to work on ladders.
Ability to work on feet all day.
Ability to squat, bend, stoop, work above shoulders, and carry, lift, push, and pull 50lbs.

Note: This position is represented by SEIU Local 2007 and the collective bargaining agreement between the university and SEIU Local 2007 governs the terms and conditions of employment.
The expected pay range for this position is $40.55 (Step 1) - $49.03 (Step 10) per hour. Placement in the range is subject to the applicable Collective Bargaining Unit. SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory/Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
